I'm quite sure that I'm not the only troper with an iPod Touch or iPhone or iPad.

Apple has sneaked into the gaming business with the iOS apps, so I'm sure some of you play such games.

Let's talk about or recommend some of these game-apps.

I'll go first - The two best games I've played on my iTouch are Queen's Crown and War for Eustrath.

Queen's Crown is a Korean-made action rpg made in the vein of Legend Of Zelda, while Eustrath is a Super Robot Wars style turn-based strategy.

QC has you in the role of a princess forced to venture beyond her castle in an epic quest to save her kingdom, while Eustrath has you follow a squad of elite Welfredian Elemental Gear Knights on a mission of protect their land from a neighboring city-state.

Both these games are well-designed and have excellent dialogue, although some of the translations are just a teeeeny bit off, resulting in some unintentional narm.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!

Aside from the obvious megahits that everyone either already has or has played on a pal's iDevice (namely, Angry Birds, Cut The Rope, Infinity Blade) there are Game Dev Story, a quirky management sim about running your own video game developer company trying to survive through all the generations of evolution of video game consoles from yesteryear to five past the future.
Civilization Revolution, while a port from the DS, is also quite good - it's a slightly dumbed-down Civ 2 with a Civ 1 viewpoint, the best there can be for Civ on the go.
Dead Space for iOS is pretty good - it's a tie-in game for Dead Space 2, not a port of the original game - and carries the traditional EA Games idea of And Your Reward Is Clothes across platforms. Nicely done.
Superbrothers: Swords and Sworcery recently got turned into a universal app, and it's critically acclaimed enough for anyone even remotely fascinated about pixel-art to owe it to themselves to try it. Nuff said.

Currently playing a game called Petalien. Similar to tamagotchi and digimon.

Word is that the first Ace Attorney game has an iOS version. I'd advise picking that up if you're the sort of person who likes playing "spot the contradictions". (It's also the sort of game that makes sense on a touchscreen-only device, unlike Street Fighter IV.)

I've also heard that Final Fantasy Tactics has been ported over. Again, a game that would work well on a touchscreen-only device...but only if they've properly overhauled the interface.

Can't really think of anything more to recommend, since I don't have any iOS devices of my own and only gets to sample them every now and then (basically whenever my rich friend in Kuwait wants new iPads).

It doesn't look that fun, but Chop Chop Caveman is one of the best platformers on the device. The Deep is a really fun pinball game. If you can afford it, try getting a Cave shooter don't kill me tsunde ray.

And finally, Solomon's Keep and Solomon's Boneyard.

Seconding Game Dev Story; it's really quite good. Some of the genre/theme combos are odd, though: F1 Racing (theme) and Racing (genre) are only 'Not Bad' together. Also, no platforming or fighting genres. That said, buy it.

I'd recommend Mirrors Edge, especially if you have an iPad. Also, Sonic 4 isn't bad, and Lego Harry Potter's a great timewaster for iPad. And who doesn't love Angry Birds?

Yeah, LEGO Harry Potter ain't half bad, but if you own a DS get it for that instead, the iOS version has excruciatingly long load times and far clumsier controls.

Just downloaded it, haven't played it yet. Looks interesting.

I was surprised how well Soul Calibur works on IOS.

It's amazing how ports like that can work on a phone.

I'll just throw in my recommendations for Espgaluda II and DoDonPachi Resurrection. They're by far the two best iOS games I've ever seen. CAVE's other games are fantastic too, particularly Bug Princess and Bug Princess 2.

Personally, I recommend just searching for "CAVE Co.,Ltd." and buying basically everything that comes up. (Except different versions of the same game, of course - just pick either the HD or regular version. And for Espagulda II, just buy the full version, since it's the Arcade and Smartphone versions bundled into one.) Or you could wait for a sale, since they usually have one every few months. (I think the last one just ended, though, so you'll be waiting for a while.)

We have a subforum for Recommendations. It's called, oddly enough, Recommendations. Even more oddly, recommendations threads belong there.
