It's nothing big. I'd probably do it myself, but in accordance with the Renaming Guidelines, I shouldn't go and rename a page without a discussion. Anyway, the main page is for indexing, and to be honest, the page did require a split due to having so many characters. However, the pages named "Characters/F-ZeroF-Zero", "Characters/F-ZeroF-ZeroX", "Characters/F-ZeroF-ZeroGX", "Characters/F-ZeroF-ZeroAX", and "Characters/F-ZeroF-ZeroGPLegend" should respectively just be "Characters/F-Zero", "Characters/F-ZeroX", "Characters/F-ZeroGX", "Characters/F-ZeroAX", and "Characters/F-ZeroGPLegend". It's pithier and much less convoluted. To follow the example of the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat character sheets, the original five characters from the first F-Zero (Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, Dr. Stewart, Pico, and Mr. Zero) would be placed in the main indexing page. Also, the page that reads "Characters/F-ZeroF-ZeroClimax" should really be named "Characters/F-ZeroMaximumVelocity". The characters from Climax are already listed on the GP Legend page and that page was originally meant to be a section for the Maximum Velocity cast. Whoever divided the pages made a mistake. So, any objections?

A single page wouldn't be complicated if you used folders. The main 'canon' characters can be in folders according to their introductory game, with sections for F-Zero, F-Zero X and F-Zero GX/AX. The biggest would be F-Zero X at 26 entries, assuming you're doing the Twin Noritta crew as one. Then you could have sections for characters exclusive to the Velocity and GP continuities.

If it used folders before the split, how big was it?

We originally had one page, divided into a folder for each game (F-Zero, X, GX, AX, GP Legend—both the anime and the game—, and Maximum Velocity). In fact, I was the one who organized the page.

Personally, it seemed to be a fairly reasonable size, but I do know that most series with multiple games/arcs tend to resort to splits if the page gets too long because it interferes with edits (the character sheets for Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and The King of Fighters all had this problem and were divided into more manageable sections).

If we're going by this logic, everything in the main canon (F-Zero —> GX/AX) should be one page, Maximum Velocity will be another, and GP Legend and Climax will be the third.

I wasn't sure if Velocity had enough characters, or enough detail on those characters, for its own page. If the characters have enough detail, go for three pages.

What about the characters who are in both the main canon and the GP Legend canon? Are they on both to accommodate the differences between their portrayals or just on the main canon?

As the one who split it, I apologize for inadvertently causing a mess. I'm not familiar at all with the games beyond the original (which I don't actually recall having a story), so I went with the organization already on the page.

The page was too large for the server to handle edits, so it had to be split, and Eddie was calling for volunteers to split it and all the others that were over 400,000 characters. All of the pages were locked until this was done, and it was made clear that it was fairly urgent and no one else was volunteering. The guideline for splitting the character pages was given in the resultant thread as use Characters/<showname><pagename>. For example, Order Of The Stick was also split this way.

@ halfmillenium: The only problem with the Maximum Velocity cast is that they were given little characterization other than Backstory (for example, Kent Akechi is a Hero-Worshipper of Captain Falcon—right down to similar attire and F-Zero machine—and believes Falcon to be his dad, while Blitz Wagner is Dr. Stewart's protege). Aside from that and their personal appearances, there's not much to go on. As for the characters from the main canon, most of the entries refer to their main incarnations although I noted. If need be, we could always add a quick synopsis of their GP Legend versions in each character's bio.

@ ccoa: Sorry. I'm not angry (and if you were going by the template suggested, then it's no problem), and it's not anything a few quick fixes can't change.

So, I propose that the main page be kept as an indexing page. There'll be two subpages: one for the main canon (something along the lines of "F-Zero Main", perhaps? I can't think of a good title) and one for the other continuities ("F-Zero Other"?). The characters from Maximum Velocity, GP Legend (both the anime and game), and Climax (about 20 characters in all; we could perhaps mention Origammy from the planned Zero Racers too) will go in the latter, while the 43 characters listed in the sections for F-Zero, X, GX, and AX will go in the first.

You don't have anything to apologize for. :P I'm the one who made a mess.

Anyway, a note of caution: make sure that neither page will have too many characters (as in letters, not people) when done, or it might end up needing a split again. It's probably important to keep an eye on how the pages might grow in the future, too. Will F-Zero Main be close to the 400k limit? Will future edits and new games push it over?

Captain Falcon's bio is (using the word count I used, anyway) 13776 characters. He takes up almost half the original game's page. Goroh, one of the most detailed characters, takes up 5636. If everyone else has a similar profile to Goroh, with around 40 characters, that's approximately 250000, and we shouldn't have a problem avoiding the 400000 mark even if a new game does come out unless it introduces twenty-odd characters.

Unless it's a different canon altogether with fresh faces, I don't think we're going to see a significant jump in terms of characters anytime soon (that's if the series even continues). The most GX/AX added was 11, Maximum Velocity had about 13/14 new faces, and GP Legend and Climax had 6, all of which are still a ways off from the 26 added in X.

So, all I need to do is make a link for the suggested pages, transfer the info to the new pages, and redirect the older pages to the new ones, right? (This is my first time renaming a page and the guidelines aren't 100% accurate.)

Are we on agreement with this? If so, I can have this all set up within a day or so.
