With ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus: The Collection on its way soon and The Last Guardian coming... sometime, seemed like a good time to start a thread about the Team ICO Series.

So! Someone please tell me my best friend and I aren't the only ones who think Dormin's all right and wanted to hug Wander?

Dormin was evil, but he was very honest about his evil-ness. He gave Wander fair warning and everything. Still evil though.

Nah, I interpreted it more as Dormin being some old god that got sealed up due to some upstart new gods stealing all his followers. That or if he is a god of life and death, maybe he pissed off the other gods by 'stealing' their followers from the afterlife, and was sealed for that reason.

Yeah, because when acting on the will of a good elder god, you always grow horns, emanate dark energy and die a horrible death as you're possessed by said god. Totally good.

Maybe not good so much as neutral or having Blue-and-Orange Morality, really. Having bits of god inside a mortal is going to do weird things no matter the morality of the god itself, and Ico's a good kid despite the godly thumbprint.

Speaking of him, Ico needs a hug, too. Also Yorda.

I heard a novelization of ICO is out. I wonder how it is.

I've only played Shadow of the Colossus, but... can I still be allowed in to play anyway?

Hm... not too long ago there was news of them developing an Ico-like game for either the 3DS or the PS Vita (I think it was the 3DS) that wasn't TLG and there was a video somewhere. All news of that seems to have disappeared though.

You're thinking of Beyond The Labyrinth. It's being made by tri-Ace.

And yes, So C Collection is going to be a first-day purchase for me.

Gotta get some extra hard drive space for my ps3 first. I glad I can play Sotc cuz my ps2 broke last year.

Seeing all these piss ant tropers trying to talk tough makes me laugh. If Matrix were here, he'd laugh too.

Yep. Just got it today.

Hadn't played either before. So far, all I've done is beat the first two Colossi. Sot C is really excellent.

I'm starting with ICO (since I hadn't played it previously) but I'm pumped to play Sot C again with (!!) fixed framerates. ICO itself is a real gem, the camera is a little tricky at first, but everything else about it is so... serene.

Necro-ing this since I'm playing the Collection right now. I played Shadow of the Colossus back in the day, but missed out on Ico, so I'm going through that. It's not a bad game, but, well, the controls are imprecise in places where it's detrimental to the gameplay (ex. the part where you have to jump on the water wheel and immediately jump off to get to the switch above it), and the combat is absolutely horrible. Most of the puzzles are fairly intuitive though, which is nice. I don't like how if you leave Yorda alone for more than two minutes to go solve a puzzle one of the shadow things just pops up and grabs her. It seems to punish players for taking their time, which is not a good thing in this kind of game. Also, whoever decided that the last section of the game needs no save points at all should die. Having said that, I'm still enjoying the game despite its flaws.

Somehow you know that the time is right.

-necro'd again-

Sorry, just had to talk about this.

I got the collection about two weeks ago. Having never owned a PS 2, I hadn't played either game before. I'd REALLY wanted to, though, which is why I was so thrilled when I heard about the collection.

I finished ICO yesterday. It was great. I liked how the game was so simple, but still felt like something special. I did put in a little bit of emotional investment. It really is easy to get attached to Yorda. I tend to think out loud when I'm alone and/or playing games, so I found myself actually saying things like "get away from her" when I was fighting shadows. It might sound ridiculous, but I'd be surprised if anyone didn't at least think things like that.

I ended up using a walkthrough more often than I would have liked. I tried to only use it when I was honestly stumped, but that became pretty frequent later on. Still, it didn't take away from the overall experience.

I didn't have a problem with not being able to save towards the end, really. It's not like the last section is very difficult. Besides, the game is nice enough to just send you back to the last map change if you die. That said, it would've sucked if you had to stop playing in the middle at some point. Guess that's where all the complaints come from. Speaking of which, the ending was just...wow. Seeing everything collapse with You Were There playing in the background was weird - and cool, and sad, all at the same time.

Anyway, I liked it a lot. I wouldn't be as quick to call it a masterpiece as some were, but it was definitely memorable and well-made.

I'm currently working on Shadow of the Colossus. Two down, fourteen to go. It seems very good so far. It's quite different from Ico, but there are definite similarities as well. I like the designs of the Colossi. They really look like something that could've been wandering the land for thousands of years. I find that exploring is surprisingly enjoyable, despite how little there is to do.

I actually got the soundtrack for Shadow of the Colossus a few days before I started playing. It's got some gorgeous music, and I now have almost the whole soundtrack on iTunes. ICO's soundtrack is nice too, but its music only really works in-game rather than on its own. That said, I did pick out a few tracks.

Well, to wrap up this long post, I'm really glad I got the collection. I'll definitely be picking up The Last Guardian when it comes out.

I got it. I love the music in both games.

I only have the 6th colossus left to beat on easy time attack mode. You don't get quite enough time to beat him.

The film's been old news for a while, but an actual update on it is in fact new.
