Been on a huge Monster Rancher kick lately. I have 2, 3, 4, Battle Card Episode II, Hop-A-Bout, and DS.

Trouble is, aside from the Battle Card and Hop-A-Bout spinoffs...I absolutely suck at them. I consider it a big accomplishment to get a monster to B Rank.

Though in 3 I almost beat the game on my first monster. i don't even know what he was. :

I played Monster Rancher 2. I was new to the mons genre then and was impressed that a game could out Guide Dangit Pokemon.

That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastes

I love Monster Rancher 2 and 4. It always aggravated me how difficult it was to obtain certain monsters if don't already know what discs they're hidden on.

It really sucks if you look it up and the only listed disc that the monster you want appears on is one you otherwise wouldn't buy.

The monster creation can occasionally be finicky in your favor: I once got a unique monster from a game called WDL thunder tanks and after looking it up that monster is supposed to ONLY come from one specific CD. Which wasn't that crappy game. I guess you just gotta be really lucky.

It's a shame the online game never made it over here.

I love this series. I know how you feel about 2—I could never seem to get all the money I needed to raise a really good monster! All the guides told me to raise a moneymaker first, but all my moneymakers sapped all the funds I raised with 'em.

My first Monster that died was in 2, a young Clear Suezo who i entered into one of the Rank F cups. I thought with the 500G prize it'd be easy :(

I hated it when your monster would die randomly, or after it was hideously mismatched by some mutant freak that murders it in one hit, or after it ran away. >:|

My first monster that died was a Mochi named well...Mochi. I cried and turned off the game out of disbelief. He died again and I cried some more.

I also cried when my first garu in MRA 2 got too old and had to either be made a coach or set off on retirement.

Monster Rancher is more of a haven for Video Game Caring Potential than most others. The amount of time you spend on one monster can be astounding, and all the effort that you put into it to make it shine really pays off when it does you proud in a tournament.

I regularly switch from being nice and loving to being cruel and sadistic while playing these games. One moment I will all "Ohh...who's a cute widdle suezo?" and the next "YES!!! FIGHT TO THE DEATH FOR MY AMUSEMENT AND PERSONAL GAIN!!!!".

I've nurtured monsters practically from the womb into undying legends whose heroic tales in the ring will be remembered forever in the minds of fans and recordkeepers. I've traveled through ancient ruins with my trusty companion and unearthed forgotten knowledge and technology that forever changes the world around me. But most importantly i've forged a bond with my monsters, a true kinship so that i may call these magnificient creatures not pets or tools but friends and while their life may be fleeting, a part of them will always be in the next monster i raise. It's a beautiful cycle of rebirth and happiness that makes the world a slightly warmer place to live in.

You are a bipolar taskmaster with too much time on your hands! Monster raising is Serious Business, dammit!

I tried to kill a monster once. I couldn't do it. ;_; Got too attached. Spent the rest of my time with it apologizing for bad errantries and scoldings and battles when it was tired. Then I reset the game cause I felt so bad :(

Yeah I can't intentionally try to kill them. I can be an asshole who makes fun of them and desires them to be badass so I can get more money, but I cannot kill them purposely.

I like arranging multiple unrelated geneologies, each gradually becoming champion material, finally culminating in those lineages combining and producing a single Olympus Mons capable of beating the tar out of S-rank beasts before it is even done growing and living virtually forever as it is constantly fed life-extending treasures to sustain itself as an invincible and eternal demi-god.

...Yeah I enjoy the old MR games a bit too much.

2 has the best solution ever to any of y'all who can't bear to kill monsters: Sueki Suezo! No matter what you do, it dies the week after you get it. Guilt-free!

And if you don't have a Monster Rancher 1 disc around, you can use a specialized burning program to make a disc the game THINKS is MR 1.

I try to do that Omnis, but I always run out of steam before I get anywhere near such a thing.

I've only played 2, 3, and A2. Haven't played any of the other games in the series though I want to.

Getting a ghost in MR 2 is so hard because you have to kill a monster to do so...

Oh, I feel ya. That funeral is FAR too cruel to the soul for what it is. ;_;

I like the Advance games. Coaching is a nice life for an old monster, as is being reincarnated through fusion. Carol the Suzurin has lived many lives, and kicked ass in all but the first couple of 'em.
