They're hilarious, yes, but don't forget that there was a lot of corny, lame, unfunny comedy back then too.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!I suppose you're right, since only the good ones get Vindicated by History, but it still bothers me that there are nobody as good as the Marx Brothers around these days.
About the only person alive today who can make me laugh on the level of the Marx Brothers is Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs.

But soft! What rock through yonder window breaks? It is a brick! And Juliet is out cold. The Marx Brothers were friggin' amazing.
There's a reason Warner Bros characters are modeled after their personalities.
But soft! What rock through yonder window breaks? It is a brick! And Juliet is out cold.Bumping this. I just got the DVD box sets of their movies and they're soooo funny. Duck Soup and Animal Crackers are probably my favorites.
"YOU FILTHY SWINE!!! I WILL KEEEEL YOU!!!Duck Soup is undoubtedly my favorite as well (isn't it everyone's?), with A Night at the Opera and Horse Feathers (that's the most entertaining football game I've ever seen) rounding out the top three.
It's kinda funny, though. When I first started watching their films in high school, Chico was probably my least favorite of the three, but watching them again as an adult, I find myself enjoying him a lot more (especially his interactions with Groucho).
Weird in a Can (updated M-F)
Dammit! They're just so damned good!
Seriously, watching Duck Soup and Horse Feathers really makes me envious of the people who lived in 1930s. What sort of comedy do we get in the 21st century? Family Guy and Seltzerberg.
-.-
