Post your idea for a musical adaption here.

The Shining as a dark/absurdist musical comedy. The only bit I can remember—

Jack: They say you feel warm before you freeze to death/they say it's nice and toasty down in hell/ Fire and brimstone, that sounds swell/ because anything is better than the (partygoers:hope your stay is pleasant at the) (the guy who killed his daughters:come and join the party) (partygoers and guy, as they drag the protesting and metaphorically dead jack back into the shadows: at the Overlook Hotel.)

I've always wanted to do Hitler's life as a Sweeney Todd-esque musical. Whimsical tragedy, I suppose.
I've been thinking about Butter Battle Book and Virgina Tech Massacre tragicomedy musicals.

^^You could even incorporate Springtime for Hitler!

Dreaming out loud.
A Firefly musical, performed by the original cast.
Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.

Every play that wins the Pulitzer Prize should get an upbeat jukebox musical adaptation that appeals to the masses.
Virgina Tech Massacre tragicomedy musical

1. That isn't an adaptation

2. No

I think that "Plan 9 from Outer Space" could work well as rock musical spoof like Rocky Horror.

Also, I never saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but the page here doesn't really seem to mention anything that implies "dark tragicomedy."

We never go any where without our swords and boas.
Anna Karenina as a Russian Opera. Strangely, it was one of the first things I though about after finishing it.
I like Shorts. Their comfortable and easy to wear.

Mass Effect The Musical. tongue

Actually that'd be either the worst thing ever, or the BEST THING EVER.
To Be Updated when I'm not Lazy
I really think that Easy A would make a surprisingly good musical. Possibly because of the fact that the plot is based off of a classic novel.

Death Note, Sweeney Todd style.
Everything happens for a reason. The reason is a chaotic intersection of chance and the laws of physics.
I would pay broadway ticket prices to see that.
Dat Troper
I think Doctor Who would be fabulous as the basis of a parody musical, but I'm also pretty sure it would fail as a serious adaptation.
It's easy, mmkay?
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...
[up] I think Lady Gaga's music would make a really good Jukebox Musical, because her concerts seem to have a running storyline, so it would make a relatively smooth transition. Then again, I could be horribly wrong.

A prequel to Portal featuring Cave Johnson, Caroline, and their daughter Chell. The focus would be on Cave Johnson's slow descent into insanity and eventually his death, and the climax would be Caroline's unwilling transformation into GLaDOS. Perhaps, to include more plot and less Adaptation Expansion, this could merely be the beginning of a longer story involving the attempts to restrain GLaDOS, her gassing of the facility on Take Your Daughter To Work Day, and perhaps even the events of the first Portal game (or both).
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...
...Is what' above spoilers from Portal 2 or is it all made-up? I must know before I highlight those tags.

@femaledavinci, You Are Not Alone! It ran for 46 perfs, in 1992. It's actually a rather famous flop- I first heard of it from the Forbidden Broadway parody. The Other Wiki informs me there's now an actual studio album with a few members of the OBC. :O

If it were possible to transpose as much of the original verse into song as possible, I think Christopher Fry's The Lady's Not For Burning would be my pick.
