I'm kinda drawing a blank on how that would feel. The fights in Metroid Prime that were actually fights and not hazard-clearance were kinda like a frantic struggle for me- Win or lose they tended to be over fast and decisively.
I sure said that! The Prime games were all about the exploration and stuff to me.
I actually feel like the speed and decisiveness of the violence is the one thing that Metroid could take from Doom. Particularly in Corruption, it felt like I had to shoot everything 150,000 times, and boss fights seemed to be... maybe about half-again too long?
Then again, you probably were supposed to feel outmatched at every turn.
Not that I disagree that every thing just soaked up the hits in Corruption and that it could have stood some trimming.

I sure said that!Ah, you're probably right. It definitely shouldn't be Doom fast, for sure.
That's a really solid design. I like how enormous the...Exhaust? Engine? tube-thing in the back is.
I sure said that! It's basically perfect.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I still prefer the design of her ship in Corruption. It was really freaking cool.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Samus was part of the Federation Army between being trained by the Chozo and becoming a bounty hunter. What rank do you think she was at the end of her time there?
Less than a general, higher than a private.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersProbably not an officer.
Samus' skills that set her apart from a normal human are probably what made her some good profit as a bounty hunter/mercenary.
And since a lot of her personal weapons are things she picks up on the planets she visits, a lot of her ship might be made from those pieces too. The money she gets from missions pay for extra parts and upkeep.
Those two are completely separate career paths.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I don't know much about space military, I'mma be honest.
Or terrestrial military.
Or in general.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShort version is, General is a CO rank, Private is enlisted and promotes through the NCO ranks. Officers don't start as Privates, they're big-picture guys who go through schooling and education and learn how to give orders and organize the military as a whole. Many never undergo basic combat training because they aren't meant to be field soldiers.
Privates enlist, go through combat training, learn how to shoot a gun and when, and then they're put into the field. They promote into the various NCO ranks, which are small-picture leadership roles. You lead the men, you give the orders, you say where to shoot and when to take cover, etc.
I don't know how space military does it either but generally anywhere you see ranks like General, Admiral, Private, etc. getting thrown around, the two separate career paths can be reasonably assumed. IIRC, Samus was an Enlisted soldier so unless she quit and went to Space Military Academy to study large-scale war tactics, she'd never be a General. Her highest achievable rank would be whatever the space military equivalent of a Sergeant Major is.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I don't think her rank was ever brought up in Other M, and in the manga she was part of the Federation Police, not the army, so I don't think she was ever addressed by rank there.
Probably why she quit.
The Hunter is a much more impressive sounding rank.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersTrue but Samus could have easily received a battlefield commission at some point.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Wouldn't it be the marines?
Moving military terms into space is always tricky. Space Is an Ocean, so most space forces are navies. But the ground troops count as marines.
Armies are probably still planetbound.
What counts as an airforce in space though? Just the fighter pilots?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe army is also where the GF banishes all its assholes to, don't forget.
Crafts that can fly both in and out of an atmosphere, maybe?

I sure said that!Like Fat Colonel?

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The list of GF Army members we know of is Fat Colonial and Adam's squad, all of whom were either assholes or basically non-entities except for Anthony.
I sure said that!Wasn't there that guy in Prime 3? He was likeable.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"
I didn't mean to imply that that's what I want from an actual MP game. Just that the new Doom feels a bit like a more violent and action-packed Prime game.
