You forgot to add a few *skronk* effects.
I sure said that!METRUCITY!!!
More game designers should play Metroid and watch Alien. I could have told you that.
An old Prime Trilogy interview with a couple of interesting anecdotes and a hostage situation.
...I'm starting to think that Sakamoto may have simply been off his meds for Other M. What's described there sounds perfectly in character for Samus.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Samus is quite a bit better at rescuing hostages than Alucard.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat was Sakamoto who said that?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yes it was.
Yeah, it seems like Samus went to the Liam Neeson School of Hostage Rescuing.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!<_< I'm not going to gloat about being right about Sakamoto not being completely crazy
(And seriously, Other M seems to be attempt at "What the cold badass character is feeling inside" story that just forgot to make character seem like badass :P In retrospect at least)
Anyway, I guess its nice to know that Sakamoto's idea of Samus does actually somewhat match fan expectation. Which actually does kinda explain why Samus didn't seem out of character to fans in Fusion :P
... So what the hell happened between Corruption and M:OM?
Stopped taking medication or seeing a therapist? Beloved family member or pet die or betray him?
I sure said that! There is a venn diagram you could draw between Sakamoto and the fanbase and that quote would go in the middle.
I don't think it was anything drastic. Just when he sat down to write a full length story focusing on Samus' headspace, he started building up from that quote about Samus and included a lot of cultural expectations and hangups.
One thing is that video games are not an ideal medium for a character who is calm on the outside and passionate on the inside. It doesn't look any different from a stoic.
Then you had Samus' internal monologue which sounded more bored than really passionate.
So, very bad execution and no idea how to actually translate ideas to the screen, I guess.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's the Bottle Ship. It's what brings out all of Samus' motherly and hysterical qualities that she can more easily express on planets where she's not constantly haunted by the baby.
I still stand behind that theory and will be standing behind it need in my grave.
I will also be standing in my grave.
So the Bottle Ship is silent hill except in a very specific way?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYes.
It can't only be me that found the place very ghostly. All those dead scientists, things watching Samus...
she was literally being haunted. ; p
I suppose she's lucky she didn't get anything like Pyramid Head.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWould have made for a better game if she did.
Really, showing her cold on the outside and warm on the inside is a very easy thing to do, even in a video game. Just have her dialog usually be in almost a monotone or otherwise cold and have her inner monologue be the exact opposite. That's the thing with inner monologues no matter what the medium: They let you express the character's true self since they're not filtering their thoughts for any reason.
Really, if Sakamoto had allowed Samus' VA to emote during her inner monologues and they hadn't just repeated information we already knew, the game probably wouldn't be as despised.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!People really shouldn't do voice direction for languages they don't speak or understand.
I'm still flabbergasted that Jennifer Hale was turned down when she auditioned to voice Samus in Other M. Of course, it was probably for the best but still. I hope she comes back for the next one.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Other M's version of Adam would probably qualify.
...^^I still don't want Samus to sound like Shepard Besides, not every badass female character should be done by the same actor
I'm on the fence with Jennifer Hale too.
On the one hand, I love Jennifer Hale.
But on the other hand ^ I also don't want Samus to be Shepard
Oh really when?Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Laura Bailey or Ali Hillis get a shot at voicing Samus.

I could easily see the latter using her Lightning voice for Samus.
I gotta hand it to 'em, though, because 'ey managed to ruffle some feathers this time.
I guess your joke was flightless, though it did lay the groundwork — even if just ruins — for someone's future adventure.
