Definitely, yeah. I dunno why Sakamoto didn't give her a try.
Then again I don't know why Sakamoto tried altogether. Sure he birthed the series but sometimes blood isn't thicker than water.
Because closure. Samus managed to find her nerve that one time? Great. What happens next time? Is she going to turn into a scared little child again? Is she going to repeat her mistake? Is she going to stay weak forever? Or will she overcome it, find the strength to stand on her own legs, face down Ridley, and be strong?
A second confrontation in which she's able to immediately put her fears to bed, face Ridley as equals, and overcome him once and for all provides closure to that plot thread. Having the Queen Metroid chomp Ridley takes that opportunity for closure away from her, and means that it is only by LUCK, not personal fortitude, that she gets to walk away from this.
You're right that reality doesn't always provide closure. In reality, trauma victims often spend countless years of their life, possible the entire rest of their life, haunted by their trauma. It impacts everything they do. It invades every aspect of their life. It springs up when they least expect it. Sometimes they manage to deal with it through years and years of therapy, and sometimes they never do, and remain broken and scared forever.
That is narratively unsatisfying for the protagonist of a story. Being the hero is about facing challenges, falling, and finding the strength to rise and overcome. Having those hurdles taken away from you because they're too hard does not make a hero, it makes a weak character. If the ending is, "And then Samus was haunted by Ridley in her nightmares for the rest of her life because she was never able to face him herself, and spent the rest of her life wondering if he's lurking around the next corner," then that's a shitty ending. If the ending is, "And then Samus overcame her trauma instantly five seconds after succumbing to it, and then was perfectly fine and it never came up again," then there's no point for the trauma scene to exist in the first place.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I'd advise seeing a doctor if your blood is thinner than water. Or installing a water filter, if it's the water that's the problem.
Anyway, I do kinda want to hear how Martin would do if not told to act like a robot. I still think I'd prefer Hale, but I would at least like to hear her at her best.
Fair point. I didn't find the "Ridley gets chomped by Queen Metroid" twist to provide a lack of closure, personally, though.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Fusion was just an Ambassador game, I think. You might be able to buy Super Metroid on the shop though. I don't believe they're selling Zero Mission for virtual console at the moment.
Oh, and since Samus's suit is so heavily connected to her biologically now, it'd be a funny in-game mechanic if whenever the energy tanks in the suit got low, her comments/narrations to real time events like reading computer logs and getting into a sudden fight get snarkier/less enthusiastic.

I'd like AI!Adam to sort of be your Voice with an Internet Connection sort of like Cortana and Master Chief
I dunno, it'd be kinda neat.

Oh really when? That'd be a neat feature, though I don't think it needs to rely on the suit's biological connection. I'd be grumpy too if my powered armor was taking repeated damage, even if it didn't affect me physically.
You know, speaking of Adam, I kinda feel Other M destroyed his character almost as much as it did Samus's. He went from a reasonable authority figure and pretty cool guy to a jerkwad who shoots Samus and has not authorized you to breathe. Ridley didn't get off so well either, mainly thanks to his stupid duck bill design (I personally don't mind his evolutionary stages, though I know there's some people who feel it undermines his badassery).
That means that the only character who came out of Other M way more awesome than before was Phantoon.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I dunno. I think the Metroid Hatchling was cool, what with being a Queen.
Except it was called "Baby" over and over. But she didn't name herself, so it isn't her fault.
Mother Brain though. Wow. The fuck did they do to you?

I'm sure I was being figurative with the "blood and water" comment but whatever.
Would something like Metal Gear's Codec work in Metroid or would it be too annoying?
I'd love a system like that actually.
Not sure who you could call though assuming this takes place after Fusion.
There's AI Adam but who else is on Samus' side after that stunt?
Oh really when?Those animals.
I would like Kid Icarus: Uprising commentation, except with more dark humor. No, kidding.
One of the hunters? Gandrayda? Anthony?
Would Anthony side with Samus over the Federation after the incident?
I could see maybe one of the other hunters but none from Prime 3 made it and the ones in Hunter's aren't exactly friendly.
Unless maybe they play it off as a "Nothing Personal it's only business" kind of deal

Oh really when?Gandrayda's dead.
Anthony's most likely since he has a soft spot for Samus that could override his loyalty to the Federation. to him, Samus is clearly a younger sister figure and he respects her ability.
Well there goes my Metroid Prime, the disk has had it and thus my time with the series is done for now.
Truly a shame.
And I think Anthony might side with Samus over the Federation. I'd be a bit iffy about finding out the Federation was studying some pretty sketchy stuff on the Bottle Ship. That and I bet he'd believe Samus when she tells him what was going on at the BSL and explained why she blew it up.
Oh really when? You should try to get the Trilogy wii release. Its fantastic.
The biggest problem with Other M is that Samus didn't act enough like an oversized bird and that the only father figure Samus ever knew didn't have a beak or enough feathers.

I would go for the Trilogy but my Wii is completely buggered. Only thing I've got now is my 3DS.
And yes Samus does need more bird mannerisms. Like shape her bedsheets into a nest or something. Or perform elaborate mating calls and dances when trying to attract a partner.

Oh really when?Or lay eggs.
Oh. Sorry about your Wii.
Or do that preening thing that birds do.
And do not feel sorry for my Wii, it lived a good life. One day I'll get a Wii U or whatever comes after it.
Oh really when?the Wii U can play Wii games so don't sell your copy of MPT just yet.
How would it be possible for her to act like a bird? Her body is nothing like a bird's.
At best, she could do pretend movements, like how you fold your fingers in when pretending to scratch like a cat (real cats actually fully extend their digits when they do that).
But it would be completely useless because her body just doesn't have those parts.
Also, it's very doubtful the Chozo's movements would resemble those of a bird's. Their bodyshape is completely different, even they do look similar.
But the Chozo still evolved from a basically avian type of organism and would likely have many of the same dynamics. And by the magic of imprinting, young Samus would learn a great deal.
We know nothing about the evolutionary history of the Chozo. And we don't even know if they lay eggs AFAIK, or anything else about their biology.
So we have no clue what their ancestors might have been like.
You can get Fusion on the 3DS?
What about Zero Mission?
Oh really when?
