It's hard for me to get excited when I don't know whether or not the game will get an overseas release.

It's exciting for me.

Because I don't care whether things will get an overseas release. I'll play it anyway.

So...

Who wants to start the betting pool on whether or not Namdai will localize this?

It's hard for me to be excited over a new Tales game when it's obvious that Namco fucking hates us and won't bring more of the games here.

[up][up][up] For a second, I was like "when did I post in this topic?"

On subject: Pretty much what everyone else has been saying. It's really sad that the last Tales game released in America was Dawn of the New World two years ago, whereas Japan has gotten what, five, six new ones in that time span? It's downright depressing to think about how little Namco Bandai seems to think of America.

On the other hand, I don't think it can be denied that right now, it's an extremely harsh market for JRPGs — look how much thrashing FFXIII got for daring to carry a lot of those traditions, and they're never going to sell as well as CODBLOPS and Halo and the rest despite both progressing at what appears to be the same rate of innovation or lack thereof. Business-wise, I suppose it makes sense to not even try...which is just why I hate business sense.

A Protagonist that doesn't use a sword but hand to hand......

I think I just geekasmed, this is the greatest most beautiful thing I've ever seen,a Tales protagonist not using a sword!

You know what? I won't be bale to enjoy it, but I'm just glad for the change. Not a fan of how he looks though. He has a nice Kosuke Fujishima style outfit but his face and hair are just so.... Generic. It's a shame, really.

I wish I could look right now, but the Firewall of Skull-faced Doom at work won't let me.

I'll settle for joining the growing ocean of tears at the inevitability of yet another Tales game not being sent this way.

I uh... Don't own Sony consoles, too much money. But I've had friends who played Abyss and I've seen a few of the others and Legendia is the one I'm least familiar with.

[up] Legendia is one of those kinds of games you play to hear the soundtrack, not necessarily to actually play it. I don't personally recommend it.

Hard to say what the fate of this game internationally will be, since apparently Namdai America is virtually dead and home base is apparently internalizing more projects because Enslaved, Majin, etc. failed so hard. Who knows. Maybe they'll finally pick up the ball for once.

(Not really digging the character designs for the leads, btw. The guy looks like a bad fanart rendition of Cid Raines and the girl is I don't know wtf.)

In fact, now that I've seen the lady, they both look generic. Nothing particularly interesting about their faces, their hair, they're just... "Generic anime faces number 4 and 235" and I know Fujishima can do better.

Have I entered some alternate dimension where FFXIII didn't sell millions of copies?

JRP Gs are still selling very well in the US. I recall hearing that Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep sold well despite being realeased at the same time as Halo Reach.

^^^ Just because it sold well doesn't mean people liked it, it just meant the Final Fantasy name could still carry a dime. Once people go their hands on it, from a lot of what I've learned, it was hated.

[up]Perhaps that has less to do with the anti-JRPG stigma in the west and more to do with FFXIII not being all that great of a game.

^It's both really. And frankly it's a shame, though I understand it from a business perspective. Shame, really, the Tales Games were different enough from your standard JRPG (I consider not going turn-based to be different enough.) to appeal to quite a few people even if they don't like the standard JRPG fare.

Add me to the disappointed in the character designs side. Those are... incredibly bland.

I'm even more disappointed that it's not in the cel-shaded style. Vesperia was gorgeous.

I'm still surprised that it's so bland despite the fact that by definition, everything Kosuke Fujishima does is beautiful.

I wonder if he's getting old...
