8 out of 10, with 10 being System Shock, 9 being System Shock 2 and Doom 3, the nearest Apocalyptic Log Survival Horror candidate In Space, being a 6,5. Pretty much recommended. The second game is better than the first, Extraction is pretty much dead between them in terms of everything - it has better Mind Screw, done via inventive usage of the first-person perspective, and its only real downside is that it's only available on the Wii and the PS 3 for the Move.

Both games are recommended if you like:

  • Unusual weapons and combat mechanics that still work great (if you're good with your aim)
  • Mind Screw plotlines
  • Replacement cyphers hidden everywhere
  • Over-the-top black humor which could be mistaken for horror

The first one is good for horror. The second one pushes it so hard it can't be taken seriously, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.

[up]Agreed. The amount of times Body Horror gets Played for Laughs or Deconstructed, makes you wonder if that was accidental or on purpose =) The idiotic ad campaign strengthens the doubts.

You know, I'm not sure which is at fault when my reaction to a certain sequence at the start of Dead Space 2 is "this is awesome" instead of absolute horror.

I think the first one is a bit of a slog, but the sequel is easily my 2011 Game of the Year thus far.

At first, I was turned off by all the ridiculous gore (yeah, I spoiled myself with youtube vids), but after realizing I had the same reaction with the Resident Evil series before I grew to love it, I realized, yeah, I may as well pick them up.

I just won't play it with any family around, though.

[up][up]Well, that's kinda the point I was trying to make - intentional or not, doesn't stop it from being an avalanche of awesome =)

As usual, I'm the last to play this. I thought the gameplay was still fun, but the level design was repetitive.

Also, that Eye Scream was horrifying. Scariest part of the game.

I suppose necroing a thread for a question about the first game is better than starting a new one, right? There was no Dead Space thread.

Anyone have tips for that anti-asteroid turret sequence? I've managed to get to the one minute mark before getting overwhelmed and I've turned up the cursor sensitivity but that only helps a little (I previously had it turned down).

Apart from that its a good game though, I bought both games at 75% off on Steam and so far the first was well worth the price and apparently the sequel is even better.

No advise, just luck.

That sequence is dumb.
