Just spam Counter. They're too dumb and aggressive not to attack.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Actually I've found that they'll hold off on attacking if you counter too much.
They aren't dumb enough for me...
I genuinely cannot imagine clearing Lucina's Cruel Smash challenge without either being the best player in the multiverse or using the "Dolphin Slash through the corner of the stage, grab ledge, drop down, repeat" method.
I sure said that!I did it without the Dolphin Slash technique for the most part.

And then there was silenceThough, as an aisde, almost any character can manage about four or five KOs in Cruel smash by baiting single Miis towards them near the edge and then just grabbing and throwing them behind them.
I sure said that!Wow, this isn't good. Someone at the hotel they held APEX at screwed up.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughOh geez. I wonder if the event is going to be cancelled.
I'm just glad nobody got hurt, but man was the hotel staff negligent.
From what I've gathered regarding what's happening with APEX:
- A portion of the hotel's parking lot collapsed, and either the hotel staff didn't do a good job finding out the cause, or they lied about what they found in order to keep the event going (I'm guessing it's the former though).
- Someone later caused the fire alarm to go off, and when the actual fire marshals got there, they evidently discovered something was off about the hotel's security and safety measures.
- Due to this, APEX is on hold, if not cancelled, while the hotel is under inspection (and will most likely be fined for safety violations, among other things).
And yeah, a lot of people are guessing that someone tripped the alarm on purpose in order to get the proper authorities there. It's a shame that the event may be cancelled, but at least we can avoid people getting hurt or killed if things got worse had the event continued.

Wow, that's bad.
I don't know how big APEX is... (or what beyond some sort of convention?). But OUCH.

APEX and EVO are the biggest Fighting game tournaments out there if I'm right, not sure which one is bigger though.
As far as Smash is concerned, APEX is big this year because both Smash 4 and Melee were going to be hosted (instead of the original assumption that only Smash 4 would be hosted), and I believe Nintendo had even planned to showcase Splatoon at it.note

Smash 4 and Melee but not Brawl or 64?
Shameful...well not 64 is probably understandable because it's so old, but Brawl is newer than Melee.
And I always liked it better...
Brawl was going to be in it too.
This happening during the first time Nintendo is involved with APEX is such awful timing.
Oh, yeah that's pretty bad. Hope they can reschedule or something if it's cancelled.
And I guess that shows what a terrible fan I am since I didn't know about any of that >_>
It has all the Smash games, it's just that 4 and Melee are so much bigger (1000 entrants compared to like 200 for the others).
EVO is probably the bigger tournament than APEX, but that's only because EVO has so many different types of fighting games than just Smash. APEX is still huge.
Regardless, yeah, this is bad. Hope it doesn't get cancelled, but I'm just glad everyone's safe. Northeast weather is pretty bad right now so I get what was going on, but that hotel needed better structure.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughAre these events held in the same place every time?
Call me butter, because I am on a roll! 3ds friend code: 5258-0885-3903 Wii U: Bowser CharizardSame area, different venue. IIRC it's held in New Jersey every year but at a different hotel each year. EVO does this too.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard Playthrough@Blitz: Most fans that are competitive or like to watch competitions involving the series knows about APEX and such, so if you're not into that kind of scene, it's understandable that you wouldn't know about it. And yeah, I forgot to mention that all the games were going to be there, but 4 and Melee are the most anticipated.

I only knew about it because of reddit and the discussions you guys have here.
Anyway, this whole thing is really messed up. Good thing whoever pulled that fire alarm called attention to this mess.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."I know some of my friends in the Greninja boards in Smashboards were going to be there so I'm just glad nobody got hurt.

I've just never followed the news because I don't know where to find it. 2014 is the first year I've tried to pay any attention to things as they happen instead of waiting for things to be advertised in-store. Also it's the first year I've tried to play online. Yes I DO live under a rock, it's very mossy.
Seriously though, glad nobody got hurt, especially nobody we know. Hope they can either find a way to safely hold the convention anyway or get a new venue where they can hold it. Or something.
Well I beat Pit's Cruel Smash challenge by spamming his bow. (10 left)
Took a couple dozen times but I did it. There's a mellow pleasure in getting past that. Pit is not my first choice for having to beat a Cruel Smash, but then Cruel Smash was never my first choice for any super hard mode.
Fortunately the only one I'll ever have to do it again with is Lucina because it is just not worth my patience.
