The only thing left will be cockroaches and Pikachus. And one will eat the other.

Takin' all bets! Got five to four on Pikachu, the mouse with the grouse, the great yellow hope!

Pikachu can't survive the apocalypse. It should be Magikarp vs. cockroaches.

Hey, we never got a cockroach Pokemon, did we?

Heracross is pretty close, I guess.

Also, Blissey could survive the apocalypse, unfortunately.

Heracross is a hercules (heracles) beetle.

Yeah, I know, but he's kind of roach-like.

Also he's awesome.

wild mass guess The next game set is going to involve the villains being a group who is convinced that the box legendary is going to destroy the world unless they capture it themselves, and their efforts end up annoying the legendary so much it goes on a rampage anyway, attacks the Team whatever and your player has to catch it or beat it before it really does wreck stuff at least on a small scale. The "2012" connection is because the Team got their idea that the world would end on a specific date because an ancient calendar happens to stop at that point and thus they assume that ancient civilization believed the world would end at that date. Also, that same civilization mentioned the box legendary in writings but those writings got misinterpreted as being apocalyptic instead of just revering its power.

There's that new beetle Pokemon that was introduced. And Chansey would also probably survive too.

Nothing but 2nd gen Suicune could survive the apocalypse. All hell could break loose and Suicune would still have half its Rests left.

Whether Chansey/Blissey survives depends on if the apocalypse is a physical or special attack. Wobbuffet can destroy the apocalypse, saving us all.

Beetles are pretty different from the typical cockroach.

Shedninja also stands a chance though it depends on what type attack causes it and whether it will directly cause envirmomental hazards.

Shedinja would survive the initial blast, but die ten seconds later of radiation poisoning.

Also, no, we never did get a cockroach 'mon. Which, given that Unova is New York, is a bit surprising. But then we also didn't get a huge ugly rat Pokemon for 5th gen, so...

I love how Japan manage to completely avert Eagleland type two. In all honestly Unova is very clean even by the standards of the Pokemon world.

There's still plenty of real-world species to base Pokemon off of. Like Water Bears, an excellent Stone Wall if I ever saw one. Now, to figure out its type. Water/Bug? No, not actually a bug, it's a eukaryote.

What type would a eukaryote be?

With the exception of Deoxys all Pokemon have been Eukaryotic or based off inanimate objects or concepts.

Water Bears are Animals under the same category as Nematodes.

[up][up] Spiders are arachnids, but that didn't stop them from making them bug types.

Most likely, water bears would be bugs, as well.

To be honest, the generic use of the word "Bug" refers to most arthropods outside of crustaceans. If it was called "Insect" type, there would be a problem.

On the other hand, the Trapinch line isn't a Bug-type despite being based off of a bug.

[up]Trapinch and pals are more based off the mythical depiction of antlions.

[up]That annoys me. We can't get a "true" antlion Pokemon. Instead we get the derpy green dragon whose only antlion resemblance is chitinous eyes.
