I agree. The Thief And The Cobbler is to go-to example for the bad side of Executive Meddling.
The Re-Cobbled cut is awesome, And I believe that before he died in 2009, Roy Disney Jr wanted the movie to be fully restored in the way it was intended.

I'm having to learn to pay the priceYes.
(spoiler alert: the following is the end of the movie)
Watch for the funny faces at 6:35 if you're not distracted by all the awesome machinery.
whoever wrote this shit needs to step on a rake in a comedic fashionWhat happened to the thief's voice?
Fight smart, not fair. Most of the voices were taken out. They were not supposed to speak in the first place.
Read my stories!I liked about half the thief's dialogue. The songs, not so much.
Fight smart, not fair.Well excuse me if Narm Charm for the Miramax cut. >:c
IJBM lives on here! Sign up!I liked the thief's voice too for the Narm Charm. Especially the Going To Disney Land line.

Fight smart, not fair.I just finished watching this video:
and I plan to see the rest of the movie later. I love the animation and I think the titular characters are cute, but what's up with the quality jumping from awesome to lame (NOT referring to the storyboard sketches, I've already heard about those)?
I found the end sequence to be a bit... well, boring, actually. Not that it wasn't stunningly intricate and all that; it just went on for so long, and I just got tired of watching the war machine slowly fall apart in spectacular ways and wanted to go back to the characters.
Be not afraid...That video looks about as i remember the movie, confusing and strange. But that was years ago, and i paid little attention to things.
And look at those clouds at 3:00, all layery.

Pages Needing ImagesThe video quality changes because some scenes couldn't be found in higher quality - Lots of scenes were deleted in the Disneyfied versions. The Recobbled cut uses the visuals of a good quality DVD release of the Miramax verson (not the audio!), but the deleted scenes had to come from bootlegged VHSes.
Anyway, there is an upcoming documentary about the film:

Interesting. Maybe Disney will release a fully-animated version in the future.
Just noticed that the Thief blog (made by people who worked on the flm) has been updated, after a long amount of inactivity: http://thethief1.blogspot.com/2011/11/into-city.html
The detail in the film and the effort put in it is just amazing.

Bump. The post I linked to has been updated with an amazing pencil test of the scene on Youtube. The more finished versions near the end of the video look almost like Conspicuous Cg. O_O
Sorry for the triple-post... for anuone not following the "official" thread at orangecow, a new high quality copy of the workprint has been discovered, meaning a new improved version ("Mark IV") of the Recobbled Cut will be made.

Really? That's awesome!
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksSo I've been reading about this for a while, but is it true that Richard Williams has made peace with this movie after writing the Animator's Survival Kit?
Because if that is the case, then where's the source of that info?
After watching the review made by The Nostalgia Critic on the Miramax cut, I took the time to watch the Recobbled Cut start to finish. The scene of the war machine in particular already really stands out, as well as the impressive Rube Goldberg-esque destruction scenes, much of which I don't remember being in the bastard cuts. In Recobbled, I really like the characterizations of the two protagonists miles better than what the executive meddlers would give them (and I HAVE seen the Miramax cut long before, BTW), and none of this shoehorned musical bullshit.
In short, I could sum it up as a remastered unfinished What Could Have Been.
