A thread where we can asks for recommendations to works in general media (Other subforums in Media will have their own eventually)

I'm looking for what can best define "Boss Fight: The Movie" (Any form of media will do).

Specifically can contain one or more of the following:

  • A big emphasis on characters, especially villains and their motivations for fighting
  • The fights themselves
  • violence and lots of it
  • There Can Be Only One/ Gotta Kill em all being the main or secondary goal in the story.

I think one of the Highlander movies would do it.

Saw the first one, SearchForVengence and The Series. I heard everything else sucks in comparison.

Anything else?

Can't think of anything, but I would like to ask for my own recommendations.

I'd like to see good works of fiction that have any one of the above:

  • Mythology,
  • High Fantasy,
  • An optimistic After the End where life goes on,
  • A modern Wuxia piece, or
  • A Western,

And no video games, please.

An useless name, a forsaken connection.

I'm looking for a video game for the Xbox 360. It should:

  • have a decent story, no Excuse Plot
  • take a decent amount of time to play through
  • not be a primarily multiplayer game

Any suggestions? The story requirement can be relaxed/nixed altogether.

Looking for an anime, it must;

  • be available for free online viewing all the way through
  • Have a strong story to hold my attention

I already saw Serial Experiments Lain.

I haven't seen it, but Boogiepop Phantom might be relevant to your interests.

I assume as much, because pretty much every anime that anyone here is likely to have seen is going to be available illegally.

I guess it is.

Tzetze: What are you a WWII Vet? No.

Thanks for the recs, guys. Due to recent events I probably won't get to see the shows for a while, but I will see them eventually.

I usually recommend the great deconstruction trifecta:

(I just noticed that all three of those titles are pretty much Adjective - Noun - Proper Noun. It's weird.)

"Wax on, wax off..." "But Mr. Miyagi, I don't see how this is helping me do Karate..." "Pubic hair is weakness, Daniel-san!"

I am offended that your trifecta has not decided to open its ranks to Princess Tutu and become a quaternary.

Looking for recommendations: ancient texts of western/southern Asia to North Africa, preferrably the major staples of getting to know said regions. Thanks!

Does anyone know of any nonfiction books about the other homo species? I mean, Neandertalis, Erectus, heidelbergensis.

On the other side of the area you mentioned, I think the Book of the Dead might be a good read.
