Rebuild of Evangelion

Sadamoto's manga had an extra chapter that features Mari as a colleague of Yui. Low-quality raw scans of the ITALIAN-language version and some discussion are available here, with additional discussion here.

On another note, in the same /a/ thread where the images were found I just found this◊ analysis of one potential interpretation of the Rebuild movies' numbering scheme. It's... kinda unsettling. Basically, the analyst thinks that the Rebuild movies are Anno's way of retaliating against the Misaimed Fandom that plagued the original series — 1.0 is "NGE as it was shown", 2.0 is "NGE as the fans (mis)interpreted it", and 3.0 is "NGE as Anno intended it to be interpreted", so in this way, instead of the last one being numbered "4.0", it's "3.0 + 1.0" to indicate that it will be "NGE as it was shown and as Anno intended it to be interpreted".

If true, then I'm sorry, Anno has lost a lot of respect from me due to his inability to accept any view of his creation other than his own.

it's unclear how much Misaimed Fandom really applies to Evangelion anyway. I think the shift from 2.0 to 3.0 was probably just Anno showing his Gainax roots, aka used to be the biggest trolls in the industry when they were still relevant.

I think that analysis is thinking too hard.

Mari/Asuka and Kaworu/Shinji is now super duper cannon.

As if Kaworu/Shinji wasn't already established back during Eo E.

To be fair Shinji also wants to bone Asuka, even if his feelings are just sexual and otherwise he would rather choke her to death.

I guess it makes sense. Manga Shinji was pretty tsundere to Manga Kaworu despite liking him, and murdered him.

Multiple rapists divide into categories based on what exactly they're tripping off; some of them are trying to reassure themselves of their power or masculinity, some of them are straight power tripping on making people do things/doing things to people, some of them are enjoying the pain they inflict, some of them have their sexual response crosswired to their anger response so they're not separable.

Shinji as wanting to simultaneously strangle and bang Asuka would seem to be in the last category.

I think that it is easier to say Shinji is experiencing really uncomfortable cognitive dissonance.

If that's the case with Shinji, then it's almost certainly a psychological thing, given that he doesn't exhibit such responses with other potential love interests (barring Kaworu in the manga, at least).

I'm not sure that rapist is quite the appropriate term to refer to Shinji.

He doesn't want to rape Asuka? He choked her in Eo E and that was not an ok thing to do but that's very different from wanting to sexually assault her.

That's masturbation. He didn't actually do anything TO her. Wanting to have sex with Asuka is not the same as "i would rape her".

Really? I though that he at the very least touched and fondled her breasts to get himself aroused.

It's hard to know for sure though, given that it was off-panel. (A good thing, if you ask me).

Yeah that was a really fucked up scene regardless.

Kid has major issues around sexuality. Kind of a given.

As far as the viewer can infer, Shinji only touched her when he was shaking her by the shoulders begging for her wake up. The force of him shaking her caused the hospital gown to open and he backs off, jacks off, and goes full Shinji. If the proto-Instrumentality scenes (sandbox, helltrain, Misato/Kaji, the stuff before he tells Reilith that everyone can just die) are anything to by, his primary subconcious motive wasn't getting off but finding another reason to hate himself.

Did he objectify Asuka? Yes, certainly; but he didn't rape her. You can't even say that his semen touched her, since we can see that he caught it in his hand. And the casual overuse of the term rape (on the internet and in real life) is actually really shitty and disturbing to me. But that isn't a discussion for this thread, and it isn't a discussion I feel like having.

I don't really think he raped her, but what he did still qualifies as sexual harassment if not outright assault.
