I saw the title of the new strip in the RSS and I knew exactly what was coming. Who knew he was a fan?

Fan? For all we know, that could have been a Take That! instead of a mere Shout-Out.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

Did you actually read the comic, man? He's clearly gotten sucked in and enjoyed it.

And I was grinning like a moron when I checked XKCD. I somehow feel slightly more vindicated.

Mr. Lostman, there's an easier way to link to wiki articles. Just use Wiki Words (WikiWords) and a link gets created. For single-word links use {{Singleword}}, like XKCD.

Speaking of which, I'm glad Dr. Horrible didn't insult us.

First comment: "This whole comic felt like an ad for TV Tropes, whith the alt text an ad for Cracked. Do you think they paid him?"

I for one doubt that Mr. Lostman writes xkcdsucks.

There's a link to Universal Tropes on the comic page, was that there before? Anyway, today we've gotten almost 8500 hits from xkcd.com and www.xkcd.com, almost 1500 from the digg page on the comic, about 2000 total from the xkcd forums I'll guess. So with horrible rounding, about 12000 hits total.

Oh, and for reference, total number of hits is about 23000 at this time, so XKCD is more than half of that.

You know, I was going to think nothing of this strip, but then the topic in Yack Fest made it impossible to ignore how blatantly Randall seems to be pandering in an attempt to shore up goodwill with this part of his fanbase. It feels like cheating.

What? Is there any evidence of such duplicity?

I don't understand how someone could come to that conclusion just given the comic.

Pandering to your fanbase is what you're supposed to do. They're your fanbase!

Pandering has implications of dishonesty and manipulation. Considering similar jokes have been made about this in the past, what makes someone think that this one is false and hollow?

I dunno, I think just the fact that it worked, and people in Yack Fest are saying they thought it was funny, despite it being by far the least original joke he's ever made, rubs me wrong.
