No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Close Combat from the third squad. The mission being played was that the winner as whoever controlled the Objective in the dead centre of the board one the game so both of us rushed it as soon as possible. I wiped one of his mobs out with massed fire and forced the second to mob up with the third but then I didn't have enough Sisters to stop the green tide swamping the Objective.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellShame xD
Anyway I've written out a ton about that Feudal World I came up with, the one fighting an Aexe-Cardinal style Forever War against a kingdom corrupted by Chaos.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I once had an idea for an Empire army where the captain had power armour and a bolter; with the explanation being "it fell from heaven, so obviously it's magical".
Halper's Law: as the length of an online discussion of minority groups increases, the probability of "SJW" or variations being used = 1.Back when 40K was in its first edition, I believe they were actually magic items in Warhammer Fantasy. The WFB Albion Worldwide Summer Campaign also had a chainsword, power sword, power armour and a plasma gun as magic weapons as well.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellIn fairness, there were bolters and other advanced tech in early WHFB-back then, the setting was a lost planet in 40k reduced to a feral state, and occasional visitors providing tech in return for slaves or artifacts. Thus, sometimes you have a Chaos Champion on the ropes, then they pull a bolt pistol and put a pumpkin-sized hole in your magic plate mail.
Would anyone like to see what I came up with? Keep in mind it's a bit of a doorstopper (for a world sheet at least) and I'm not even sure I'm really done with it yet.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I've managed to finish Devastation of Baal, and the army builder in me kind of swore, as the book pretty much named almost all known Chapters of the Blood who pledged their forces to defend Baal. Minus the Lamenters of course. Welp.
I had to laugh at the description of the Carmine Swords though. For the longest time they thought they were descended from the Ultramarines, and had no idea why some of their fellows eventually grew a craving for blood, or turned into maniacs reliving a mythical battle.
Poor, poor Lamenters...
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireBattlefleet Gothic Armada 2! Takes place during Gathering Storm, no less!

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.What's the gameplay like?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Have you played the previous game? If so, I apologize for the redundant answer.
It's a 2D RTS with a relatively small number of units in each engagement, where you have to account for their ability to maneuver. Large ships have a maneuver gauge that they can use to make hard turns, boost ahead, or brake hard; otherwise, they lumber along in broad curves.
Tactics involve things like trying to keep out of foes' weapons arcs, hiding in nebulae or using big asteroids as cover, and ramming, which makes a really satisfying BOOM - creeak creaak grooooan sound when you do it.
You get requisition for performing missions, and use it to maintain and upgrade your ships, as well as getting new ones.
I hadn't. Sounds worth a look.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.looking for advice on a (mostly) Primaris Chapter I've been working on
the official line is they're an Imperial Fists successor chapter that lost 90% of their Marines in the opening of the Great Rift, and that their former home world had a long lost Great Crusade era armoury on it, which is why the 1st Company, the survivors, have a lot of suits of relic Terminator armour and Contemptor Dreadnoughts
the truth however...... is far darker, they're actully the survivors from a Loyalist Iron Warriors Strike Cruser that was lost in the warp during the Heresy and finally re-emereged during the opening of the Rift
they were found by Cawl, who recognised the distress codes being broadcast from their ship as beloning to loyalist contengients of Traitor Legions, who, in exchange for the gene seed from fallen brothers, both traitor and loyal, gave them a new identity, new colours and 900 Primaris Marines made from the gene seed of their Primarch
since then they keep more or less to the Codex to avoid drawing suspicion, Cawl fabricating records to keep nosy adepts and members of the Inquisition off them, though have a greater focus on heavy armour and weapons (e.g. they field more Hellblasters than normal, and have many more Predators and Vindicators) with one exception.... if they encounter Iron Warriors, they deploy in full chapter strength and seek to utterly destroy their treacherous brothers, trying to burn away the sins of their father and brothers
it's unknown if Robute is aware of their true identity..... but the fact he has requested their presence in thearters were Iron Warriors are known to operate might mean he knows more than he is willing to let on.....
the Chapter more secrets up their sleeve however, such as in the bowls of the strike cruser they escaped in are 5 Dreadnoughts.... each of which still bear the old Legion colours, and are only deployed in the most desperate of situations when they are certain there are no Imperial forces watching
Chapter Tactics are a "hammer and anvil" appraoch, there are representatives of the 1st Company in every battle Company, they normally hold behind during the opening stages of most battles, waiting for the gound forces to open a breach in the enemys defences which they will teleport into and force their foe out to face waiting guns
as the Indomitus Crusade starts to wind down, Scouts have been seen in their ranks, despite them supposedly handing over all their gene seed to a certain magos....
advancing the front into TV TropesWhat advice do you need with that?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Yeah, like.... Do you want opinions on the fluff you came up with or?
Or do you just want advice on what would be a good paint job for them?
Disgusted, but not surprisedworking on the lore mostly and I'm trying to run it past pretty much everyone I can
advancing the front into TV TropesSounds fine to me.
@Fry's Homebrew Chapter: While I have personally never seen the attraction some people have to loyalist traitors your background seems reasonable. I would question why they don't just repaint those Dreadnoughts however.

Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellPart of them trying to hold onto the past/hope to one day be able to redeem the name of the Iron Warriors (they did just literally jump 10,000 years into the future, the Heresy is still fresh for them), or maybe it's more the Dreadnought's don't want to be repainted.... still trying to decide
advancing the front into TV TropesYa, I love messing around with the Loyalist Traitor idea, and the other way around too.
I remember a while ago I had an idea for a Chapter called the "Blackshields" who were made of Traitor Astartes that had remained loyal. They were renegade, but still loyal to the Imperium.

I'd imagine that the orcs just lasted long enough to get into close combat? Or was it sheer volume of fire from them?
Ugh, this stuff sounds so fun, I might make an investment into one army if there were people around me that played but there's no one near me.
