No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Ah. I think I will wait for the official preview at any rate.
Anyway, in the October White Dwarf it has an article on creating your own Space Marine Chapter and it says that Warhammer Community is/will be running a Create Your Own Chapter competition. To enter you have to send a pic of a model painted in your colour scheme to Warhammer Community by 29th October. The prize is an 'Eavy Metal painted model in your Chapter colours and to have them written into the background.
Welp. I guess I'll paint up the 30th Anniversary Veteran Sergeant up in my Praetorians of the Emperor colour schemenote then.

I was thinking of painting that model as well. The question is whether to go paint it in one of the homemade Chapters I have full armies for or one of my paper Chapters.
It'll either be that one, or the Primaris Captain. I may do five, the Primaris Captain, 30th Anniversary Vet Sergeant, and the 3 Easy-to-Build just showing the different variations of the scheme.

Any news on possible model releases for the Guard, or will the old metal models still be used?
No news on models, just some examples of kitbashes for obscure regiments.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Legio Custodes Orion Assault Dropship is up for pre-order on Forge World and it is beautiful◊. If only I had the money.
So I picked up my Nurgle's Gift Collection before work.
This thing is AWESOME.
Also, I've got number 0652 out of 1250. Sweet.
would have been better if it was number 777 :P
wish the Guard codex had something like that....
advancing the front into TV TropesYou mean there's things it doesn't have?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Guard will just have to make do with a truckload of strong rules and bonuses and so on. They can dry their tears with the instructions from their many, many Russ tanks, all of which can now double-shoot their main guns when moving slowly, as they lament their lack of an overpriced collector's edition.
I'm just lurking a lot, but I have to question the decision to give one of the strongest armies like two token nerfs and a boatload of buffs. Hell, with Doctrines and new Orders some conscripts might make it out with a net gain.
And when you compare it to the Adeptus Mechanicus codex, which was almost a copy paste from the Index, it starts to get silly.
The Crudance strikes again.
Honestly, the Imperial Guard weren't that good in 7th. With the lack of special formations that became the Game-Breaker of that edition, and with the fact that they never got a formalized 7th edition update, they were lagging behind for the longest time. They weren't quite Ork-tier, but they were pretty close.
8th edition seems to have made them a lot stronger with the vehicle rules changes, though, so yeah, these stratagems seem excessive.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.I wanted a fancy cover and box like Nurgle and the Marines got! :P
advancing the front into TV TropesSome of the changes *cough*Catachantanks*cough* don't even make sense from a fluff perspective.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I forget the name, but the writer is a new one, or at least someone who hadn't been credited before. He was answering questions on livestream.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I assume that they get re-rolls on blast weapons because they "encourage" their Tech-Priests to either dope the payloads or simply stuff in more explosives, and on fire weapons because they hold down the trigger for longer.
I thought it because the catachans have a massive amount of flamers and the was to represent that. Or am I mistaken?

Not so much numbers as experience-on Catachan, everyone pitches in to protect the population, and that includes using flamers to burn away the rapid growth of the venomous/toxic/carnivorous plants that carpet the planet. Using a flamer every day since you big enough to heft one to fight off the foliage around your house, that is literally trying to eat your face presumably translates into an affinity for fire.

Plus: Catachans are basically Nam Vets in Space. And anyone with a cursory knowledge of Vietnam would know that the United States LOVED Napalm as the first, second and third options for dealing with the jungle.
When all else fails, use fire. Sometimes one should use it earlier than that.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"that is pretty much vulcan doctrine to war....and eveyrthing else for that matter.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"That said, Vulcan balked at the use of the 40k version of white phosphorus (aka Willy Pete), phosphex.
"There will be no Rad or Phospex in my legion. We shall fight wars humanely. Some things should be left in the dark age."
Disgusted, but not surprised
