No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a hapless protagonist in a setting that has recently gained a new or expanded source of trouble must be neck deep in it.
Quick 8e rule question.
If a Flyer with a minimum movement range is in combat, it has to fall-back from combat to meet the minimum movement range, right?
IE: There's no exception to the minimum movement for being in close combat?
re Cain: According to Amberley's annotations, it's implied that Jurgen actually lives long after Cain passes on. I'm guessing that he joins her entourage?
And yeah, isn't Valhalla now stuck in Imperium Nihilus? Interesting times for Cain, all around!
Well, for what I see Mordia was invaded so far by Magnus the red and the thousand sons, Armaggedon is facing another great war, now between Ork AND chaos....yarrick cant really catch a break, cant he?.
I expect the red corsair to launch more and more assaults on Chogoris.
Also, did roboute ever thought about is brothers? or the idea they may be alive?
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I might not be remembering right as it's been a few years since I read them, but IIRC one of Cain's stories has him making a wistful remembrance of Jurgen, so I think Cain outlives him by at least a few years.
Airborne flyers in close combat: yes, they still need to move their minimum.
It is, of course, highly likely they have Fly and so can shoot after.
Alternatively, if they can Hover, they can do that instead.
Guilliman is probably too preoccupied with everything else right now to be wondering if the other Loyalist Primarchs whose deaths weren't confirmed are going to show up after being absent for 10,000+ years.
Disgusted, but not surprisedGuilliman to the first Primarch to show up: "Took you long enough you stupid fucking fuckwhistle. Do you have any idea how long I've had to keep this shit-heap going without backup?!"
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. The other Primarchs' responses:
Jaghatai Khan: ...10,000 years?! Time really does flow differently in the Warp. I could swear it's only been a few days since those asshole Dark El — Drukhari — blew up my bike while I was pursuing them in the Webway, tossing me into the Warp.
Leman Russ: ...MAAAGNNUUUUSSS!!
Lion: I was a bit busy being "dead" like you. And unlike you I didn't have a heretical cogboy and a filthy xeno-witch to bring me back to life. I had to do it the old-fashioned way.
Rogal Dorn: ...The Imperial Fists have done what with my hands?!
Vulkan: Oh, I'm so sorry I couldn't come back from the dead fast enough after being blown to atoms after channeling a reactor full of WAAAGH! energy.
Corvus Corax: Crawling in my skin...

Disgusted, but not surprisedI was expecting Corax to be more like 'don't you know who I am? I'm the goddamn Birdman'
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Nah Konrad Curze was Batman. Corax was more like Nightwing.

Nah, Kruze was The Punisher. Corax was Batman.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI have had a theory for a while that Leman Russ was actually the first Primarch to return. We don't know the true identity of Murderfang after all
Anyway, for today’s 2nd Edition Thursday: Squat Warrior Squads
Although they never received a codex during 2nd Edition the Squats did get rules in the Codex: Army Listsnote booklet included in the 2nd Edition starter set. Under these basic rules, Squat Warriors could be bought in squads of 5 Squats equipped with lasguns, laspistols, frag & krak grenades and flak armour for 85 points. The statline of a Squat Warrior was: M3 WS4 BS3 S3 T4 W1 I2 A1 Ld9. One Squat in every squad could be given a Specialnote or Heavynote weapon. As you would expect from Space Dwarves, all Squats also Hate Orks.
A Squat Warrior squad could be accompanied by an elite Heathguard costing 23 points and armed with a laspistol, frag & krak grenades and carapace armour with stats of M3 WS5 BS4 S3 T4 W1 I3 A1 Ld10. Heathguard could be given a single Wargear Card and could be given additional wargear from the Squat wargear lists. Armour: Squat Exo-Armour (4+ save on 2D6) with a Bolter, Targeter & Power Axe – 40 points; Refractor Field (5+ unmodifiable save) – 6 points; Conversion Field (4+ unmodifiable save with a chance of blinding nearby models) – 14 points; Displacer Field (3+ unmodifiable save that moves the model in a random direction). Assault Weapons: Chainsword – 2 points; Power Axe – 7 points; Power Glove – 10 points; Power Sword – 6 points; Regular Sword or Axe – 1 point; Autopistol – 1 point; Bolt Pistol – 2 points; Hand Flamer – 5 points; Plasma Pistol – 4 points. Special Weapons (as above). Grenades: Blind Grenades (blocks line of sight) – 2 points; Melta Bombs – 5 points; Photon Flash Flares (chance of blinding enemy) – 2 points; Plasma Grenades – 3 points.

So the Displacer Field is a real thing with actual stats in tabletop... I used to think it had been invented for Cain (and later statted in RP).
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."It's interesting how a lot of equipment in the RPGs is stuff from old editions of the tabletop that have been lost to time.
Yep, they are from the tabletop. The full rules were:
Displacer Field - 10 Points: A displace field is in fact a miniature warp-drive mechanism with a proximity detector which activates the warp-drive when it picks up incoming shots, psychic attacks or close combat blows. The displacer field was very reliable, activating on a roll of 3 or more on a D6 whenever the wearer was hit. The field instantly shifted the wearer D6” in a direction determined by rolling the scatter dice. This would cause the attacks which struck the character to miss unless the attack used a template or blast marker and the field failed to get them out of the area of effect. A displacer field would not work against a Vortex grenade.
Although it was before even my time, from what I understand 1st Edition 40K, aka Rogue Trader, was a lot closer to an RPG than it was to today's wargame with things done on an individual model basis rather than on a unit basis (something that was still around when I started playing in 2nd Edition). Hell I seem to remember an interview with one of the founders of Games Workshop where it was said that one of the reasons the company was set up was to bring US style roleplaying games to the UK.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. You know what we need?
Primaris malevolent marines, with 30% MORE douchebashery, that would be great.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Imagine a Primaris Blood Angel giving in to the Red Thirst or Black Rage. Or a Primaris Space Wolf giving in to the Curse of the Wulfen. Or worse, a Primaris Thousand Sons repeating the mistakes of his progenitor Legion abusing Warp powers and suffering the Flesh-Change.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWell, there's no guarantee that the Primaris Marines serving in their particular Chapter even have the same gene-seed.
So it might be one of Robby's blue boys suddenly gets a shot of bastard crazy and decides to beat the tar out of an incoming Ork horde with the butt of his boltgun.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.the primaris are perfect for the space wolf: since Fenris suffer a huge depopulation issues, the primaris are perfect to replace lost it...I think that was what GW wanted, the bastards.
in fact, how much fenrir suffer during wrath zone? most people said very little, another that it got wreck...how much in fact?.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"The planet is alright-ish. Most of the tribal population was murdered by the Inquisition for witnessing Magnus the Red.
Good job as usual, Inquisitors.
The Fenris System is all kinds of fucked.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. The original batch of Primaris Marines were made with Utramarine gene-seed. But Cawl has samples of the other Legions' gene-seed. Including the Traitor Legions and Lost Legions.
Magnus' attack also exposed the Curse of the Wulfen. The Space Wolves and Fenris system are both pretty much fucked right now. They'd need a miracle to save them now. Like say, their Primarch returning from the Warp.

Disgusted, but not surprised
...Of course Cain is on the wrong side of the Rift. Otherwise his life would be too easy :D?
