No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Another plaguing me.
Dreadnoughts could use more transport options than simply walking or be launched from orbit.
Can, like, Rhinos or Land Raiders carry a dread and, if not, would it be too outlandish that one be modified with a roomier interior that a dread could fit in?
Except, the more I think about this idea, the funnier it gets cause either there is somebody chaperoning this or these dreadnoughts around in a vehicle or they're somehow driving themselves, I imagine through some kind of uplink because anything else becomes too ridiculous.
Either idea is rife with comedic potential.
Then the White Scars, you know they'd do this, make an open top version so that the dread doesn't even have to stop the car and get out. No they, ride around, shooting from the back, it's fantastic.

Super-Heavy Transports (such as the Thunderhawk) are the only ones with space to transport a Dreadnought. Stormravens can also transport them mag-locked to the rear. There isn't really a need for a ground based transport with these two.
Fair enough.
Still think that the White Scars didn't try hard enough to accommodate their own handicappable senior citizens.
You could've hard wire that fucker into a Thunderhawk or a light armored tank or something. It could-a been your guy's chapter specific thing and you'd have something that make you a little more interesting!
Older background indicates that most White Scars would rather die than be cooped up in a Dreadnought, unable to feel the wind in their face as they ride across the battlefield, which is why they don't have too many of them.
Aw, I thought it was just a matter of speed. That's what I get for stereotyping, I guess.
It actually would be interesting to have a chapter that operates by interring fallen warriors in a wider variety of war machines. Probably mostly more durable ones, of course, though Sarcophibikers would be amazing. It could make the vehicles immune to "crew shaken" results and represent their enhanced grace and skill somehow.
Seems almost Iron Handsian, now that I think about it.
I'm currently deciding whether to get this version of the rules or wait until 8th edition. This will my first time buying a 40k rulebook and attempting to make an army. Can some of you who've been in the franchise for a while tell me your thoughts?

You say I am loved, when I don’t feel a thing. You say I am strong, when I think I am weak. You say I am held, when I am falling short.download a PDF for now until we get solid information, next time I go down there I'll ask the bloke at my GW shop bout 8th Edition (still waiting for Imperial Guard 7th Edition...)
advancing the front into TV TropesYou can probably find a softcover version of the rulebook (it'll have a Raven Guard Astartes on the front) for relatively cheap on eBay...it's an easier investment than the hardcover bookset. I don't anticipate 8th edition for several months; someone had a that the rules for the Battle of Vedros intro game are a way to beta test a new rules system for 40K as a whole.
Please don't advocate piracy.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Put out some feelers in your local scene. Someone might have a spare copy of the Kill-Team/Dark Vengeance mini rulebook you could buy pretty cheaply. That way you don't need to wait until an unclear date, but haven't committed a huge sum in the interim.
Mini War Gaming is running a Facebook promotion where you come up with a custom rule for Dave's Chaos Lord character Davicus. Here's my offering...might not make sense unless you're familiar with that crew, and even then it's pretty shit but it was worth the effort.
If Davicus is locked in combat, he may attempt to overwhelm his foes with a barrage of Warp-empowered nonsense gibberish.
At the start of each player's assault phase, prior to any Pile In moves, all enemy models in base contact with Davicus must make an Initiative roll-off against Davicus.
Any models that fail suffer -2 to their Initiative and WS for the remainder of the phase, and each has their # of Attacks reduced to 1.
If Davicus fails, there is no effect.
If Davicus' roll is 2 against any such model, he falls under the influence of the Mark of Jay. He suffers -2 to his Initiative and can only make successful To Hit and To Wound rolls on 6's for the remainder of the phase.

...If I hadn't just started an Eldar army...
"Yup. That tasted purple."welp... looks like Caida is going to fall.... guess this was the wrong time to start a Cadian army... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uehKu7g_uLc
advancing the front into TV TropesCadian soldiers are scattered throughout the galaxy. You should be fine, they'll just get extra motivation (namely REVEEEEEENGE).
"Should mighty Cadia fall...... we shall do such damage to the forces of the Arch-Enemy that our name shall be burned into their minds for untold millennia to come! The mere mention of Cadia will cause even the most hardened of those vile traitors to know fear! For before we fall they shall have to face everything we have! The world will be drenched in red light from our Lasgun! Earthshaker shells will blot out the sun! Continents and mountains will shake at the approach of our armoured might! Baneblades and Russ will grind all those foolish enough to stand before us into paste! For we are the Imperial Guard! We, and we alone hold the line! And when we die... we die standing... FOR THE EMPEROR! AND FOR THE IMPERIUM OF MAN!" (some bollocks I wrote about this)
revenge will come.... revenge will come.... from the barrel of a plasma gun
advancing the front into TV Tropes
Great, can we have plastic Mordians, Steel Legion, Vostroyans, etc. now?
you're not getting shit till Gee Dubs bring back the Praetorian Guard!
advancing the front into TV TropesNothing could stop the fall of Cadia...it was the will of the true Gods.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Meh, it's Failbaddon talking.
I like how Abbie is such a combat monster but none of his abilities buff his troops.
He'll murder any motherfucker that tries to usurp him but he really isn't all that good at leading.
That Celestine model is beautiful, and the Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor is cool as well.
He has great leadership abilities in Battlefleet Gothic, by which I mean if people don't do what he tells them to do they die.
I think I prefer the new image personally. The previous one, while good, was a little boring. I didn't like the previous caption either really.
Thanks. I am very happy how they turned out.
EDIT: I've added pics for Naaman & Xaviar to the Astartes Character page but I think the Xaviar pic may be a bit too big
