This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

V's lack of an explicit gender is a running gag in a webcomic rife with them. I'm not sure where or how much respect is supposed to come into it.
My stance is this: I'm lazy, I'm cowardly, I'm tired, it's past one in the morning, and I don't feel like getting thumped today. Sorry for starting this up in the first place. Good night.
EDIT: Hippy.
EDIT 2: Yeah, what Mr. Unfairly-Cool-Name said. Fuck...

i care but i'm restless, i'm here but i'm really gone, i'm wrong and i'm sorry, babyI'm just saying, you're not "respecting V's opinion" because V's never given one. Xie is as much an assumption as he or she is. It's no more or less valid than any other choice of gender pronoun.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.V has never indicated that she cares how others address her. If anything, she likes to keep it ambiguous since she feels it doesn't matter and is of no concern to anyone but herself. If she cared, she would say something. Therefore, I see no need to tiptoe around the matter and simply refer to her with a pronoun choice based off of factors I'm not completely conscious of.
@^^ Uh, way to.. attempt an insult and fail?
I've always liked V and it's always been a bit disappointing to me that we see them interact with Haley, Elan, Belkar and Durkon and form character development from those interactions, we never see that same interaction with Roy, which always bothered me because I always felt there was a lot of personal respect between them.
After Roy and V, it goes Haley and Elan.
V is my favourite. I sympathise with V's flaws, particularly the high Intelligence/low Wisdom and the arrogance. V's also the character who has made the greatest mistakes, and I am looking forward to see how ze comes to deal with it.
"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajV is my favourite character in the Order - at first because his/her Sesquepedelian Loquaciousness and sarcasm entertaining and s/he pulled off some pretty cool accomplishment (especially during the Battle of Azure City), and during and after Book 4 because of how interesting his/her character arc has been. The arc with V, the dragon, and the Soul Splice is probably my favourite part of the entire comic, and I'm can't wait to see how everything relating to that turns out.
Also a big fan of Elan, Haley, and Roy. Durkon is okay, and will hopefully get more interesting in future. Can't stand Belkar.
My favourite character not in the Order is Redcloak, because of his dry sarcasm and because I really, really, really like revolutionaries with a justifiable cause. I'd like to see him get a better ending than he's likely to (his character has Villain with Tragic Ending written all over it).
V and Blackwing are definitely my favourites.
Be not afraid...Favourite characters in the Order... V and Haley.
Favorite member of the Sapphire Guard?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!O-Chul. Hinjo is great too. I have mixed feelings about Miko. Lien doesn't strike me as a particularly interesting character.

"the gender binary"? lolwut?
I would use hir, but generally I think V's a woman so I use the usual female terms.
and yea, she hasn't "Made a choice", it's a just running joke in a comic. calm yourself

I'm baaaaaaackRefers to the notion that gender is only male or female. That is, binary. Conventional wisdom is that it's more of a sliding scale than one-or-the-other.
Anyway, when referring to Vaarsuvius, I generally just use "V" wherever I could. Sometimes I just talk about him as normal, but alternate what pronouns I use to refer to her. It's not meant to signify anything but my own uncertainty.
Anyway. Yeah. O-Chul. Guy's got a body of iron and a heart of gold...plated steel.

I have a message from another time...What Enlong said. Gender is a lot like sexuality. Some people are wholly male, some wholly female, some both, some neither, some a third gender, etc.
My favorite characters are V and Roy, for the reasons already stated. Haley and Elan aren't far behind but I feel like their Character Development is wrapping up.
So I'm a writer...Mod Warning
This thread will not derail into a gender pronoun debate. Thumpage will ensue if needed. In fact, I'm tempted to go back a bit and issue a few.
I meant what I said.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So, how 'bout that IFCC? What's their main goal, again?
i care but i'm restless, i'm here but i'm really gone, i'm wrong and i'm sorry, babyTheir overarching goal is to win the eternal conflict against the Upper Planes. To this end, they seek to unite the warring devils, daemons, and demons by demonstrating the value of cooperation. Along the way, they are more than happy to engage in whatever acts of violence and destruction they can manage.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"To unite the three races of fiends under one banner and topple the forces of Good forever.
And conflict. For the Order, for the Goblins, for the Azurites, for Xykon, Tarquin, Hinjo and all the other forces of good and evil to experience destructive unnecessary conflict of the same type and scale that has plagued the fiendish races for so long.

Does the IFCC even know about the connection between the Gates and the Snarl?
Probably, through Sabine's connection to Nale.
"Every week" is quite the exaggeration. Gender isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of choice. It's not inherent, no matter how much mainstream culture wants you to believe so.
