This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

Rules thread.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."You need to reach the Godzilla Threshold before you release Bloodfeast.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.Kill Belkar; get one hungry and very angry Allosaurus, free?
What an obtuse spell name.
Ten bucks says one of the giants took it.
I assume it's not going to be that simple and casual, because otherwise.. what was the point of having it happen?
http://www.mansionofe.comDepriving Roy of it during the fight, forcing him to improvise based on whatever weapons he can find lying around and thus improving the Frost Giant's chance of actually carrying on a sustainable fight with him?
It's a Drama-Preserving Handicap. But now that drama's over and it's time to reclaim the sword.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I give better than even odds they can't retrieve it immediately.
Yeah, if they were just going to find it right away they'd just be shown finding it without any buildup. Right now they're violating Unspoken Plan Guarantee, an immutable law in this universe.
I think Belkar gave us the clear Lampshade Hanging that this should not happen again, so no, getting back the sword shouldn't take too long. So what was the purpose of losing it? The Deus Exit Machina that he had to defeat the giantess without his sword. That sabre was way unpar not just because it's nonamgical, but also because Roy has Weapon Specialization in greatsword.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.On the other hand they could just be establishing that there's an easy way to retrieve it without scouring an entire mountain range.
Either that or, while retrieving the sword will go off without a hitch, the trip to do so will reveal some other complication.
That's also possible.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.About really, really tough potatoes and their skins: raw, baked or deep fried?
Oh sure, nobody worry about the Chaos Sabre that was a gift to Elan from his mentor.
More of a neat-looking dagger to them, really.

V having to fetch Roy's sword is a reasonably convenient excuse to burn off one of V's two remaining times in Hell.

Not really. All that would accomplish is make everyone wait 20 minutes. And the airship travels at the speed of plot anyway.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Berlew himself seems to acknowledge that the whole thing was anti-climatic.
My guess is that a new character will be encountered while they retrieve the sword.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Yeah, they make that joke about one problem being solved offscreen, and then start talking about retrieving Roy's sword.
If that was going to be part of the same joke, it'd be solved within this strip. Say, Roy talks at length about the possible difficulties and delays involved in trying to get the sword, and then V says "It's this sword, correct? I Located it and flew off to retrieve it just now. You were wasting a lot of time talking."
EDIT: Looks like I'm disagreeing with you here, I realise that I'm not. Just going into detail on why I agree with you :P

I mean, we still have the mystery of why the giants want them dead,(and presumably the world destroyed) that's the obvious plot hook this encounter leads to.
I thought they were just loyally following the will of their god?
...
Are you implying that there exist situations where the sudden presence of a hungry dinosaur can be counterproductive?
I'm not sure how to react to that assertion.
(Also, would Dispel Magic work, or would V need to use Break Enchantment? Because Greater Dispel Magic would probably work, but Break Enchantment is riskier)
