The existence of the top of the mountain on the roof of the building implies they carved the temple out of the mountain rather than constructing it on top of it.

Summoned some elementals perhaps?

Soften Earth and Stone would help, as would (if they have Druids) Move Earth.

At least one of the clerics probably worships an earth god.

So, what we know about The Monster In The Darkness:

• It was born in a jungle environment
• It recalls a father that was very large
• It is capable of casting Wish or Greater Wish as a spell-like ability.
• It most likely has an impressive strength stat, low intellect, and possibly a weak will save.
• It attracts demon roaches, suggesting a CE/Demonic background.
• It is NOT however, by nature, Always Chaotic Evil, as it demonstrates an innocence and leans towards Good and the capacity to make Good choices.

Does this fit ANYTHING anyone can think of?

I half expect it to wind up being an original creation just because I think Rich has stated that he stays out of speculation threads because seeing people speculate something that's correct gives him an impulse to change it.

And literally every possible thing has been speculated a thousand times over at this point.

The wish part is the hardest part, since no creature in D&D 3.5 has it as an innate baseline power, or anything else that could mimic warping O-Chul and V halfway across the world. So that teleporting thing, wish or not, is likely houseruled. Fortunately, there's an obvious type of monster on which to houserule wishes: genies.

And given the DR shown, the most likely type would be a dao, or earth genie. Which was never actually officially statted in 3.5 (but was mentioned), so Burlew does have freedom to fill that in however he wants, including the high Strength and low mental scores. If I'm following the pattern of genie alignment correctly, dao were Lawful Good. ^note It's either that or Chaotic Evil, but given that the other slot would go to water genies, I'm going to figure earth = lawful.

At the least, its as good a guess as any.

Yeah I thought we were just continuing the repetitive conversation joke, even though it was late. Not actually trying to figure out what it is.

To be fair, LMage's post above seemed to be serious, so I answered seriously.

I recently finished a binge of OOTS and this has been bugging me for days, I mostly wanted to get the speculation out of my system.

Oh. Then basically nothing fits exactly unless you're going with a creature/person with such vague and undefined limits to their abilities that it's impossible to guess.

It's obviously a Snorlax.

All we know is that according to Rich, it is something from Dn D.

That's pretty much the only surefire fact we have about what it could be.

It's pretty much the same as V's gender, except it's a question that will actually have an answer.

I don't remember him saying that. He just said it wasn't something he made up for the purposes of this comic.

AFAIK he said it should be guessable and he didn't make it up, but not that it comes from DnD.
