We could say this: Granny might have known and not stopped because at least she could observe the situation as is, it is hard enough to know what all the underlings are doing and specially with a family like that. It is likely that she knew but that she didn't approve of some stuff like the killing of female Sparks, but didn't move because at the moment she saw that the whole project was doomed before the Agatha coming into play.
The whole running with an atomic bomb I can just picture that Granny must have some experience in that regard... to which Tarvek will comment sooner or later.
Well here goes nothingWasn't Grandpa Sturmvoraus still alive when the capture and try to mind transplant thing was going on? That would have affected exactly what Grandma was doing. (If only because she had to maneuver around him.)
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettYes, evidently Grandpa died at some point during the Timeskip- Seffie informs Tweedle that it's happened when she "debriefs" him in the Refuge of Storms.
In which case it starts to sound like Granny may be complicit. That would change my view of the character.
She's a Sturmvarous. What makes you expect that she wouldn't be complicit in some (or all) of the various plots?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Well the issue is that if she knew and the other if she approved or let it go because it kept the backstabbers with some failing plot instead of doing something worse? Like leaving some kids with a broken fridge for them to play, with holes so nobody can suffocate, so they wouldn't mess up with something far more deadly.
Well here goes nothingin the US, all fridges made since 19... 56 or 58 have to be able to be opened from the inside with a very gentle push. Other countries, I dunno.
As far as the Sturmvarous family and cadet branches are concerned, what plots you involve yourself in when and how fast you can turn or stop on a dime is vital to survival. Sentiment can be deadly. Grandma has shown herself a master of multiple simultaneous long-range game playing (she'd probably be murder in a MMORPG), and would do exactly what would serve her interests best.

This is an automated program that checks the Sneaky Gate every 5 minutes. source codeNot sure what I'd expect a surprised Chewy to say, but Yoicks wouldn't have made my list.
Not to denigrate his newfound loyalty to Agatha, but I'd say Voltaire Pere just about hit the nail on the head there. Staying out of trouble is not Agatha's forte.
That poster in the last panel. No thank you.
I suspect Grandma is playing Xanatos Speed Chess, but it may do no good when The Other can simply wipe the pieces and board off the table.
Good news, Colette seems more bemused than angry at Agatha's ill-planned-but-well-meaning tampering with her home/body. Hopefully she's not setting up for a Mood Whiplash.
In the first speech bubble of the last panel, shouldn't it be " mistress' " (or however mistress is made possessive)?

It was going so well until it exploded.Aw man... I remember that Punky Brewster episode.
mistress's
Well talk about the dress doing a convenient censoring of a possible panty shot.
Well Agatha and Chewie will have a lot onto "little friend" as it can also mean Colette might mention our lil Weasel.
Well here goes nothing@50110 Hey, they still sell that concoction Gil made of toothpaste and hedgehogs. That's pretty mild by the standards of Girl Genius.
Also... uh... snails as ingredients is not that unusual in real life. I'm not just talking about escargots à la Bourguignonne (the traditional "snails in garlic-and-shallot butter" preparation), I'm talking about use in medicine (there's a decent amount of skin cream out there using garden snail mucus, let alone more exotic varieties of mollusk). I'm just saying, snail tonic honestly strikes me as downright mundane.
@50113 Depends on who you ask, but generally, both "mistress'" and "mistress's" are considered correct (some variance depending on which style guide you use; I personally prefer the former). "Mistresses" without an apostrophe anywhere is right out.
@50116 While not nearly as impressive of a feat, that dress' neckline is also doing a fantastic job of holding into place with that much movement.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. The Other has devastated Europa, killed and dispossessed millions, and almost brought down civilization. Not sure what kind of plots would justify playing around with that level of nastiness.
It's basically a very high-stakes gamble, in one of two fashions.
- The only way you have to stop her is to ingratiate yourself to her so that you're in position to make the critical strike to the heart when you have it.
- You think things are totally FUBAR no matter what, and you're trying to control exactly how civilization crashes (as the saying goes, any crash you can walk away from was a good one).
Both stances require a certain level of cynicism or desperation. But that level of cynicism seems less ridiculous and more "survival mechanism" in Tarvek's family.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Hiding one's underwear is what outer clothes were designed for.
For some reason this strip is the first time I've heard Collette sounding French.

No, she called Tarvek 'cherie' earlier. We presumed that meant that there had been some sort of warm feeling between them when he was a student. It may still.

Yes.
And, at the same time, no.

The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableThe problem is that Colette started another can o worms. Behold the power of meetings, where all the energy goes to waste... Unless Colette plans to farm the energy from the incoming bickering.
Well here goes nothing
It definitely doesn't preclude her knowing about it -and maybe even allowing it to go forward.
