Im thinking that Gil, Vanamonde, and the injured Jagers will delay the construction crews winding their way up the valley. Just as the crews come into sight of Mechanicsberg, Agatha will reactivate the castle. The castle, after 18 years of boredom and frustration, destroys the Wulfenbach forces. At some point in this narrative, Klaus will find out that Gil has chosen Agatha's side. They may stare at each across a burning heaps of destroyed mecha, with Klaus evacuating into a blimp with Bangladesh.
I believe Vole is fated to die this volume.

Yes, almost all of the classic elements of character mortality are in play in Vole's case, with one exception: the scene where Gil beat him up but did NOT kill him. Doesn't seem much like a scene that preludes a scene where someone else beats him up and does kill him.
How about a scene where something blows up and kills him?
On the other hand, we still aren't sure why Vole quit the Jagers. Until then, he does have some extra protection.

Vole's pretty much toast, he's just gonna take a while. Serves no purpose except to be a danger for Agatha to overcome, and has no personality or motive beyond what's needed to make him a danger to her. I think he might last longer than this volume (plenty of other badasses have, including the gleefully enthusiastic Bangladesh Dupree), but he doesn't strike me as the type to do a heel-face turn.
Is that who I think it is? Airman Higgs!
Heh, this is cool. I thought he was just supposed to be a silly side-story whose humor made up for its unnecessity, but this works too. Surprised to see him frequenting the Jager bar though. Also, I like how people who aren't Jagermonsters can just sit back and ignore the barfight if they want, and nobody will try to "include" them (actually, knowing how destructively Jagermonsters fight, the only way a non-combatant could possibly remain calm in this situation is if they were all specifically trying not to hit him).
edit: PS I like the Jager in the background with the top hat.
Poetry Slam Thursdays: Does this mean Jäger poetry is like Vogon poetry, or do the Jägers just put the slam in poetry slam?

I think it is. And while we're at it, do I smell a romantic subplot in the works? We haven't had one of them in a while.
Looking at the archives, 99% chance it's Higgs. He's certainly recovered quickly.

I'm guessing the latter. Jagers strike as the type who'd best appreciate an evening of improvised free verse if they can have a mosh pit to express how it's making them feel.
Either that or all poetry is Vogon poetry to them, and they just instinctively need to break things whenever someone breaks into rhyming couplets
See that? Zeetha felt flattered (for a moment). That's totally enough to keep my romantic subplot theory alive
It's not a "One True Pairing" but he could be a fling for Zeetha.
Zeetha seems to like fighting an awful lot. Maybe she should've been a Jager.
And this confirms the theory that, despite looking like absolute chaos, the Jager brawl is actually controlled enough to not hurt anyone who isn't fighting, even if they're located smack-dab in the middle of it. Still not a pleasant place to be unless you're very drunk, though.
So he'll be a recurring character? Nice.
That would make sense. The Foglio's seem to treat each "set" as if they were paying for someone to build it in a Hollywood soundstage. They won't want to "pay" for an exterior shot as Gil & Co. leave the bar.
Looks like someone's been drafted into the main storyline! What fun.

They do have to draw it. But I think they're slightly more mobile than that, since much if not most of the story takes place in locations which we only see in one scene. That said, a scene change now is very likely. Agatha's getting awful lonely, after all.

Heaven forbid they go back to the Baron in his medi-mech. A scene change does seem likely. What else can they do with this scene? They're on the way out of the bar.
Adam850 wrote:
They can do a startling revelation that changes everything. Or if they feel like proving stm77 wrong, they can do a panoramic exterior shot of some dramatic event that changes everything. The scene looks like it'll run out of puff instead of wrapping up neatly, so a cliffhanger'd be he sensible way to end it.
EDIT: also, how much am I still right about love being in the air with Zeetha and whatsisname? Totally right, that's how right.

I'm not joking.
Higgs looks thrilled.
The evening bar fight. You know, that Mama Gkiki is pretty smart, assuming this plan actually leads to not having bar fights the other 23 hours.
