What happens to your body if a ghost kills your soul?
Also, Jeanne totally cheated. Attacking Smitty when her opponent is Parley. Bad form.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Well he was participating as a support.
smitty was carrying a pocket bible everything will be fine
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterLike I said before, fight a teleporter by controlling where she teleports. By attacking Smitty, Jeanne either removes the source of the strings or forces Parley (who Jeanne knows has feelings for him) into making herself vulnerable. Either way, it's win-win for Jeanne.
a particular Bon Jovi song comes to mind.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Do we know what happens if Parley tries hitting Jean with the sharp end of her sword?
Also, another point to consider, although Kat really dislikes the Seraph 'bots, if they turn up to try to save her, will she try to stop them?
I can't help but notice the distinct lack of panic going on around here.
I think everyone is stuck in shock. Also, maybe not quite realizing just how far south things are going. Unless an undead hand reaching from below is a good thing... which it usually is not.
Of course, there is a flip side... what if this is a feint by Smitty, and not only did he want her close to ensnare her in his fate strings, but he even made sure to have a Pocket Protector and get stabbed at that precise point?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Pocket Protector is one thing, but I actually went back a page and checked and that dagger is in way too deep for any means of protection I'm aware of... unless she, like, somehow JUST missed any vital organs. That's what I'm holding out for now.

Due to a rare physiological quirk, that dagger just happened to miss all of Smitty's vital organs.
Well, it's possible that the dagger penetrated his shirt and then immediately broke. Not that I'd put much stock in that idea.
On the other hand, with a blade that length, you'd expect it to be sticking out the other side if it's that deep in.
Edit: Oh wait, we don't have a good view of his back. I thought we did.

New idea. Jeanne's main gauche was replaced with a trick dagger without her knowledge and the blade just retracted into the handle.
Personally, I always choose denial over panic, at least until I am faced with undeniable evidence, and sometimes not even then.
Writer, or something. And... a button? 🖲️Nah, any chest wound that breaks the seal that the diaphram uses to breathe is inevitably fatal without immediate medical help.
A wound that goes right into the ribcage would cause such a break.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youLike You Would Really Do It is probably heavily in play here. It's maybe looking like Smitty will have been seriously hurt, which is surprising in and of itself given the nature of his ability, but, I suspect, worst-case scenario, Parley teleports him to the Court's hospital. Which might take her out of the fight for a few minutes, which gives me more reason to be concerned for the rest of the people she leaves behind... Unless the plan of last resort here is for Parley to just bail everyone out if things start heading south.
All of which is why I wouldn't put it past Tom to have another twist in mind, here— a ghost's sword clearly has some physical presence or Parley wouldn't be able to duel Jeanne in the first place. But the same might not apply to her dagger.
The lack of panic just comes of everyone here holding their breath, I think, not wanting to jinx it. Plus if any forum's going to get all meta about this, it's the one on this site.

I can think of one other possibility, although some might view it as the ultimate cop-out.
Blue is still there, and she can still manipulate perception of reality. What if she's doing that right now, making a new illusion that's close to reality such that it's harder for Jeanne to pierce it?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I'd love that, myself.
It would be quite clever. An illusion within an illusion would definitely catch her off-guard. But wasn't Jeanne able to see the threads of fate and how they connected to Smitty? Unless somehow those threads are also part of the illusion.

Most people can't see those. I don't think Blue knows about them.
