Is there a place to talk about The Rift
I'm currently reading Part 2,and I gotta say,it definitely has more intrigue than either The Search or The Promise
The past with General Iron Man is drawn the same way as Avatar Wan, and the character of Yangchen is really quite something.
The whole thing between Bei Fong and Toph is gut-wrenching
The Cabbage Merchant's return was also glorious.
The Rift 2 has been amazing! Even if the final is not exactly a cliffhanger I can't wait to see Toph and her father's talk after all is done, Aang dealing with Old Iron, more about Yangchen, what exactly happened to Tienhai...
Lao is being more sympathetic than I thought he would be. In the series he was a cartoony fool unable to see the truth in front of him. In the Rift he is a conflicted individual trying to assimilate two very different views of his daugther and choosing between his love for her and his wounded pride. His scenes with Toph are a Kick the Dog but at least you can see he is human. Also, he being a Benevolent Boss helps.
They seem to have started to build the next trilogy with "the terrible problems in Southern Tribe". I expect Katara and Sokka will get more spotlight, especially Sokka who has been only a comic relief in the previous, even in his badass moments. That said, I don't want to see Nutha again while she don't change her behaviour. Her envy is so obvious it's patetic.
I don't see Satoru as Toph's boyfriend but I like him and I expect he will call his uncle out, especially when said uncle has almost killed several people include themselves with his greed. Also when he said his uncle was there when he needed him most, it's true or a severe case of Stockholm syndrome?
Idle thought: I was thinking today about Toph's ability to see through her feet, and something occurred to me: she can't see Sokka's boomerang. In combat, she knows the others are skilled benders, but Sokka isn't. To her, he's just flailing about far away from the enemy while everyone is fighting.
No wonder she frequently displays zero faith in his combat abilities.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Hmmm that's an interesting thought. We never get a sense of Toph knowing someone's weight and even then the boomerang would likely be negligible. I think she would sense how much impact he was exerting when he was throwing it, so maybe she had an idea.
(•_•)⌐■-■ ( ಠ_ಠ)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)She can't see the boomerang, but she can see him throwing it, and she's not an idiot. Plus, the thing's practically his Companion Cube.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.What feats did he display before he started Swordbending?

A couple of pages of the Rift part 3

YESSSSS!!!
I just was thinking about to write a fic with Aang going to ask Toph's students for help! I'm a seer O.O Ok no, but it was the logical thing with Toph trapped in the mine. In the first page all of them seems ready to fight something. General Old Iron sure. And the second must be when the students arrive and find out they are going to have a metalbending practical class with their teacher's live in stake. Do your best, guys! [evilgrin]
I'm loving The Rift, but I think Toph's "sight" is being taken a little too far in this comic. Mostly little things, like when she asks to see her father and Satoru just points, "this way," and there's no questioning it. She seems to be looking directly at a lot of people, and she didn't before. She also seems able to sense weapons and elements in the air. Thoughts?
I didn't notice the "that way" scene at first Lo L Perhaps they do it to save panels. About the weapons, she did it in the series too. I think that since she can see where the thrower is, she can guess the weapon trajectory.
I have been rethinking the "Southern Tribe problems" subplot and something doesn't fit. It has been more or less two years since the war ended, the Northen Tribe is helping to rebuild it, the men are back... I don't know how it can be worse than in the first episodes of the series. And it's very hard to believe Katara and Sokka didn't visit at least once or that Hakoda didn't write them even a single note saying "We have arrived to home safely. Gran Gran misses you. Love, dad." And all those waterbenders in the refinery must be from the Northen Tribe. Are they in crisis too?
So here's a random thought. Combustion Man is kinda like an amalgam of State Alchemists. He has a metal prosthetic arm and leg (Ed), can create huge explosions with minimal effort (Roy), and is huge and buff and has facial hair (Alex (and maybe also Basque)).
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Kimblee also made explosions.
He also has a pet dog like Shou Tucker.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyWell, Kimble was more dynamite and less combustion, and CM had a bird. Also, reminding anyone of Shou Tucker gets you sent to the timeout zone.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Psh. Shou Tucker jokes are the best jokes.
And Sparky Sparky Boom Man's explosions remind me more of Kimblee's dynamite than Roy's fire.
I was thinking of the ranged component. Like, Kimblee turns things into bombs, Roy and CM just skip the middleman.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Technically thy have an added middleman. Air.
Anyway, the part about CM's dog was a joke.

And those are only the first pages. My god, the feels. I really love how IC is Toph in that scene with her father. And Satoru's parents being in the pro Ozai movement... I don't know if the next trilogy will be about this or about Katara and Sokka. Both of them are OK but we have had a lot about Zuko and the Fire Nation and nothing for the water siblings

What's happened to Lao Bei Fong here is like someone who watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood first find out that in fact it IS possible to Cry for the Devil where Lust is concerned under the right tools, which the writers of '03 had.
Haveing read almost nothing from any of the comics outside of those pages...
I'm tearbending!

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyWell yes, it's possible, when they're different characters at their core. You can react differently to anyone if you write them differently. It's really not that big a feat.
Improving as an author, one video at a time.I suppose. Also, there was foreshadowing with Airbending having flight as a subability because during the fight in Ba Sing Sei after Aang released his attachment to Katara, he was flying/hovering without any wind sphere.

Apparently there's gonna be an ATLA panel in this year's Comic-Con.
I hope someone at least records the audio of this cause I really wanna listen to it.
