Season three
Gotta love the new shorts at the end. Hopefully they'll continue all season- they lampshaded themselves in episode 1!
Chibi-Zuko...
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?I hope they tone down the Aangst a bit. The first episode of season 3 really went overboard. Wonder if we're ever going to find out if the Kiyoshi warriors are dead?
I think that is gonna be a mouse situation. The writers seem to leave death ambiguous, they needed to use Word of God to convince people Jet was dead after all. They don't want to depict death and they sure as hell don't want to dwell on it, it is a kids show. (Yay the [ww] markup is here!)
Season three thus far is a perfect example of how the series' writers LOVE to torture the poor, poor fandom. Especially the more shippy parts of the fandom. For two seasons we had nothing but subtext, often pointing in the wrong direction (as with the Zuko/Katara subtext in 2x20 — WHAM!). Now, two episodes into the third season, we have some heavy Aang/Katara subtext (don't you dare say the dance in episode two wasn't subtext) and some heavy Zuko/Mai text. Sometimes I think the writers are only writing for the pleasure of watching the fandom explode — I picture them sitting in front of their computers right after the episodes have aired, browsing LJ communities and munching popcorn.
Aah, the second episode was quite nice after the angsty first one. Now Zuko is angsty and Aang is happy-go-lucky! As it should be!
The martial arts animation is always amazing. I love the humour too. This show is still brilliant.
If they had wanted to make a serious angsty ep for the premiere though, they should have made it into a two parter with this one included.
How long do you think it will be until the guy going "freestyle" gets his own website?
Yay, awesome little short! But was the episode really just filler, or did I miss something important?
Oh, and hi, everyone, newcomer reporting in. Love the site, you're so funny, I want to be awesome like you, etc. etc.
You'd think that the Fire Nation would be posting guards around their weapons factories... I find it rather odd that no one noticed that it was gone until Generic Fire Bending Officer #12 woke up...

I'll say it: That was not subtext. It wasn't sub anything. That was pretty much the end of whatever doubt a rational observer would have had about who Katara would end up with. It's all over now but the shouting.
Forgotten Crossroads of Destiny and all leading up to it so soon, have we? It ain't over 'till it's Jossed.

You're in denial. They spent 5 minutes in a cave together, and just barely got over hating each other. Katara has shown Toph more affection than that!
Actually, I'm mostly¹ in the Maiko camp myself. They're just so cute together. What I meant with my post was just that messieurs Konietzko and Di Martino have a habit of writing these big huge Whams no-one will ever see coming, like Crossroads of Destiny.
¹Well, I do have this Epileptic Tree with some Toko in it. But it's pretty epileptic.
Ædit: Never no embarrassing spelling errors.
''Toku.
what.''
Ep 1: I cheered when princess Yue appeared, it's nice to know that Ang can count on the ascended energy beings/spirits in his world to at least give moral support. ... then again, was it me or did she help him make that super tidal wave?
Fire Lord Ozai seems... human. I don't know, he just seems pretty normal. Not out of the way handsome, ugly, or evil, he could be an extra in pretty much any episode. On the other hand, he's probably just waiting to pounce.
Ep 2: I want a tattoo like the creepy guy has on his forehead!
Ep 3: I was expecting the painted lady to be an Airbender, but a spirit!? Cool!

Anyway, the basic idea is that Toph hasn't met Zuko all that often. Only episode I can recall them actually meeting each other is the Chase, and they didn't really have much of a chance to interact. Now, depending on how much of Co D's details Katara told, Toph might actually consider him a decent guy because of Iroh. Now we just need her to leave the Gaang over something silly (like a healthy dose of Sukka) and hey presto. Hilarity Ensues as the Jerk with a Heart of Gold encounters The Woobie of the show.
Toph's new pet meteor strikes me as a Chekov's Gun.
More the White Lotus tile... still, good chance that they'll run into something where the whole starmetal-sword thing will be important. Maybe the space-earth will be remembered then...
From the preview, it looks like we'll be seeing an evil Beach Episode next week... Azula playing volleyball is just funny, in an awesome way.
Oh, and look at what Iroh's become, indeed...
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Surely not a Chekov's Gun?
I have a hunch that hilarity will ensue if Sokka starts calling himself Lee. I mean, there's already millions of Lees.
Also, the wind sword scene. Didn't see that coming.
Can someone tell me the ending of the last episode? I had to record it, and the recording cut out not long after the sword fight.
[]The master reveals that he knew Sokka was Water Tribe all along, and says some stuff about no one nation owning the secrets of the sword. They leave, a messenger comes after them and gives them a White Lotus tile (not that they know what it means...), and Sokka gives Toph a piece of "space earth".]]
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Does anyone know why the second half of the third season is being delayed on Nickelodeon? I've heard some say it's the writer's strike (which I'm uncertain if that effects Avatar), but I thought they would be finish with the scripts by now. It's also been suggested they are trying to spread the episodes out so their nielsen ratings looks better. Still other just say they just don't have a damn clue what they're doing.
Animation writers are not covered bt the WGA, so the strike has little to do with it.
Not only are animation writers not covered by the WGA, but production on Avatar has been finished for some time now—since well before Season 3 started airing. I suspect the reason they are dragging out the season so long is that they don't want people to forget about Avatar before the live-action movie comes out in (I think) '09. That's understandable. What's not understandable is why episodes are airing in other countries before they air in the U.S. That's just nutty.
The Season 3, Volume 3 DVD is scheduled to be released around the end of May, so we can be pretty sure they'll make with the new episodes no later than mid-April.
Stuff what I do.So I've been checking the YTV website periodically... Well, they've been pretending for some time that episode fourteen would be airing on the nearest Friday, but when I looked it up yesterday, the Friday schedule made no such pretense, and the bulletin on the Avatar page had skipped ahead to March 14. Guys, I think we're really going to see it next week. The schedule for March 14 will come up tomorrow, and if the subtitle on that schedule says "The Boiling Rock" rather than simply "Avatar", well, that'll clinch it.
Season two has started, you guys know you want to discuss it.
Aang's hair suits him.
