• Broken Base: Readers are split on Celestia’s portrayal. Some see the reasoning behind her Hobbes Was Right stance acceptable, and though abhorrent, understand why she feels she must go through with her master plan. The rest feel that she's just an arrogant baby-stealing hypocrite.
• Ending Fatigue: Half of Cadance’s goals were achieved midway through the story, and the other half took a sideline to another villain suddenly taking over. Not a major issue there, but the Final Battle takes up a third of the story and took most of the year to release chapters for (and still isn’t complete), when each chapter before then was released in a span of three months. Needless to say, longtime readers longed for a resolution.
• Moral Event Horizon: Celestia’s machinations are borderline tyrannical, yet understandable to many readers, but her plans to steal away Cadance’s future children, and her glee at the prospect, kill any sympathy she might engender with her Well-Intentioned Extremism. Fortunately, she hasn’t crossed the line ‘’’yet’’’, so she can still has the chance to correct her course.
  • King Sombra, meanwhile, cartwheels over the line with a smile on his face. Not only what he did in the past qualifies, but what he’s already done since his arrival and what he plans to do qualify him.
