YMMV / What If They Were In Smash?

  • Broken Base: Whenever BrawlFan1 makes a moveset of a character from one game/franchise that already has plenty of different characters covered already, including from Undertale, Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokémon. Some fans are perfectly fine with it, as plenty of requests are made for the episodes to happen in the first place, but plenty of other fans wish for BJ to stop pandering to the various fanbases for a variety of reasons. BrawlFan1 has stated to be trying to avoid pandering to one group by putting some distance between each character from the same series to avoid over-saturation; typically by doing nine other characters before returning to a series.
  • Heartwarming Moments: BJ is genuinely saddened by the story of The Binding of Isaac and shows genuine sympathy towards the title character in the moveset. Would be a tear-jerker if not for the adorable unknown animation of an unknown elf-like girl cradling Isaac in her arms with the caption 'protect him' flashing on the screen just before the moveset concludes.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: For Bendy's moveset video, BJ chose to depict them as a theoretical depiction of the Ink Demon: bearing a closer resemblance to his cartoon incarnation instead of the deformed monstrous appearance in the game proper, while still being made of ink to invoke the Uncanny Valley theme. In the sequel game Bendy and the Dark Revival, we're introduced to a ink-construct Bendy more alike his cartoon appearance.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Due to Undertale not having much in the way of "official" art beyond the characters' sprites, BrawlFan1 made his own for the various characters. However, in his art for Flowey, due to adding irises in his otherwise simple pair of eyes, it ends up looking like another set of eyeballs staring back at the viewer, coming across as unintentionally freaky. BJ admits in hindsight the unintentionally creepy effect in play, but also remarking that due to this being Flowey, it's all the more fitting.
  • Tear Jerker: Considering the Masked Man's reveal of being Lucas's thought to be dead brother Claus and all related moments back in Mother 3, this was inevitable when the subject comes up in their move-set video. Though, special mention goes to the Masked Man's final victory animation. It starts with a Dead Hat Shot of their mask before panning over to reveal the ghosts of both Claus and Hinawa walking away in the background, the former having passed away to be free from being Porky's puppet and be with his mother again. Never cry until the end indeed.
  • Unexpected Character: One that was very deliberate on BJ's part, the Slime from Dragon Quest. Not only did this character not have any votes from the viewers, but most people expected Erdrick to be included in Smash due to rumors circulating around the time and figured BJ would cover him. BrawlFan1's reasoning for the oddball pick was because of said Erdrick rumours and would hold off to confirm his suspicion.note
