YMMV / Vs. Sonic.exe RERUN

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The animation made for the midway point of "Top Loader" quite cleverly blends the limited color palette of the NES with 3D to show off NES Robotnik's power as a Glitch Entity as he effortlessly wipes the floor with Boyfriend. As long as you're not sensitive to flashing lights in the animation, it's an amazing sequence to watch in action.
  • Broken Base:
    • RERUN had gotten numerous arguments between members of the mod's fanbase. While some are okay with the mod's general roster getting toned down, others complain that it takes away from the hype originally built up for the mod itself.
    • The fanbase also has a rough point of contention about whether or not the inclusion of swing sections (like during the final part of Top Loader) or voice sampling (present in songs like "Smoke & Mirrors" or "Stranger Danger") benefits the songs seen in the mod or outright ruins them.
  • Evil Is Cool: Whilst only getting under two minutes of screen time compared to NES Sonic, NES Robotnik's section of "Top Loader" is enjoyed by many, from giving the doctor A Day in the Limelight to his section of the song being seen as a favorite by a good number of fans. It helps that the finale of his section is set to get a full-out animated sequence for players to watch before he leaves before the song's final part.
  • Fan Nickname: In a comment on Floombo's "Top Loader" animation, he specifically refers to NES Robotnik as "Glitchman" for obvious reasons.
  • Narm Charm: "Sonic Kills You And You Die" is based on images taken in Google Maps, but with Sonic.exe Photoshopped over them. This mod, however, takes that concept and makes it truly unsettling to behold, the demon mostly being framed in darkness all throughout.
  • Obvious Beta: The initial leaked build was in this state, with a lot of songs missing their graphics, charting sometimes not being accurate or even songs not being properly implemented. This did get fixed later on.
    • "Sinful Prayer", understandably, isn't entirely finished, but what's presented does give a glimpse into what's to come.
  • Spoiled by the Format: A tweet on Twitter/X ended up giving away the major plot point of the story week that Sonic.exe succeeds in killing off both Boyfriend and Girlfriend.
  • That One Level: "Top Loader" is pretty fast-paced and has some very complex charting between all of its versions, including those originally meant for FNF: Parallax. Not to mention that the song goes on for about 5 to 7 minutes, making it a Marathon Level that really tests your skills.
