The Cheech & Chong film:

  • Awesome Music:
    • War's "Low Rider" playing over the opening credits (as Pedro preps his "Love Machine" before he drives off in it).
    • "Earache my eye", the song Cheech's band plays at the very end.
    • "Framed", the song that plays when Cheech and Chong get busted and go to court.
  • Critical Dissonance: The film was panned by critics but proved popular with audiences.
  • Designated Villain: Sgt. Stedanko, all he’s doing is trying to stop an illegal shipment of marijuana.
  • Misaimed Fandom: An unfortunate take-away from this film was future stoner comedians finding joy in performing comedy or acting in doofy comedies while completely baked (Seth Rogen is notorious for this). This is despite the fact that Cheech Marin made it perfectly clear that it would be extremely unprofessional to be stoned while working on a movie.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The film captured the late '70s drug culture just before the turn towards moral conservatism and increased disapproval toward drug use in the '80s.
  • Values Dissonance: These days, it seems like Stedanko is overreacting when he talks about the dangers of marijuana, but back then it was actually considered dangerous.
  • Values Resonance: Cheech and Chong's characters seem much more sympathetic with more jurisdictions legalizing cannabis and more people supporting decriminalization of drugs in general.

The fanfic:

  • Tear Jerker: Lamont's death.
    • A Fridge Tear Jerker occurs, too. At one point, Hanna calls Worth and Conrad, telling them to go to Salem. He then tells them that if they should run into Veser or Toni, to pick them up. Neither Toni, nor Veser, nor even Ples appears once in the story, which means that it's quite likely that they're dead.
      • Partially averted, as it turns out that Toni, at least, is alive and working with some werewolves, and Ples shows up holed up in a clock tower with The Wild Hunt on his heels later in the series. And then of course they have to deal with that mess.
