YMMV / Unhappily Ever After

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Let's face it, this show wouldn't have lasted one season without Nikki Cox. Lampshaded by the writers a number of times.
Ryan: Imagine what life would be like without Tiffany.
Jack: We'd be unemployed! We're on the WB with her!
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the series finale, a dying Mr. Floppy takes a shot at a certain sitcom called That ‘70s show which was still airing its first season at the time. Floppy says it’s dying, but the joke would be on him as it ran for 8 seasons while 'Unhappily' fell into obscurity.
Mr. Floppy: Hey Jack, there's someone here who's dying and nobody cares. “Gee mr. Floppy, who would that be?” That ‘70s Show.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: According to Word of God, despite being so much like Married... with Children, Ron Leavitt (who co-created both shows) said that he'd intended to make Unhappily with more contrast than Married. He admitted that it didn't quite work out like that.
    • To clarify, the series was originally supposed to focus on a family through a divorce. Thing is, by the start of Season 2, Jack and Jennie wound up getting back together - apparently in response to positive reception of Jack.
      • Furthermore, Ron Leavitt created the show as a means to cope with his own divorce; the fact that the show morphed into a Married... with Children clone largely happened by accident once the show turned out to be a hit and decided to reconcile the parents.
