YMMV / Ultimate Spider-Man (2024)

Go To

  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: Some interpreted Peter's retort to the Goblin sarcastically calling his suit cool as him being offended on his daughter's behalf, considering its red and blue look was created with her input.
  • Awesome Art: Almost immediately upon release, reviews exploded with praise for the work of Marco Checchetto and Matt Wilson, and it's not hard to see why. The first issue makes a remarkable impression, especially the final page, showing Peter as Spider-Man for the first time, standing on a roof with a beautiful sunset peeking through the clouds behind him.
  • Epileptic Trees: Upon seeing that this Peter's suit is a "picotech stealth suit" that is initially pitch black, many have already run rampant with theories about this new suit being the Earth 6160 counterpart to the Venom Symbiote, considering the Nanomachines function similarly to the Black Suit. It's helped by the fact the suit was stored alongside the radioactive spider in ball form not unlike the symbiote back in Secret Wars (1984). It's not helped by Peter's first attempt at a redesign being directly based on the black suit.
  • Fandom Rivalry: One is already starting with Zeb Wells' run and, to a lesser extent, all other runs (except for Nick Spencer's run) that ran since One More Day.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Much of the buzz around this series was heavily centered people just wanting to see Peter and Mary Jane as a married couple, with children of their own; the early high praise for it was pretty much centered around people complimenting the artwork and the fact Peter is a family man with MJ. Marvel itself wasn’t hiding the fact they wanted as many people hooked on that fact alone, much of the promotional material was solely based on portraying Peter and Mary Jane as a loving couple, and as parents.
  • Shocking Moments: A lot of readers were completely thrown for a loop when Issue #1 revealed that Uncle Ben is alive on Earth-6160.
  • Spoiled by the Format: A variant cover and concept art spoiled the fact that Harry Osborn is this universe's version of the Green Goblin months before its proper reveal in issue #3. Same with a particular variant cover for issue #4 being unveiled before issue #3 even got released, revealing Gwen Stacy here is an Osborn, through being Harry's wife.
  • Unexpected Character: While many predicted that he'd show up for obvious reasons, nobody could've predicted that Uncle Ben would still be alive and be part of the supporting cast.
