YMMV / Tom and Jerry Direct-to-Video Film Series

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Four words: Red Hot Riding Hood. The films including her are considered series high points for many adult viewers appreciative of the steamy Parent Service she provides.
  • Broken Base: The series tends to get this a bit more than its fellow Scooby-Doo series. The series remains a regular feature of Warner Bros Animation's slate and sells well among a section of fans, but it's also heavily reviled on corners of the internet that routinely wonder how it still continues to exist.
  • Franchise Original Sin: When Tom and Jerry began appearing in crossover movies in the late 2000s and early 2010s (such as with The Nutcracker and Sherlock Holmes), it was either accepted or ignored because at least they still had some measure of originality. Eyebrows were raised when they crossed over with The Wizard of Oz, but it was a public domain story that they at least attempted to do different things with. One other factor that is ignored entirely is that animated Wizard of Oz adaptations have been part of the MGM cartoons library since Chuck Jones' "Off To See The Wizard" in the 1960s making it a stealth Bat Family Crossover, which when realized helped make it largely excused. It finally seemed to cross a line with the release of Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, an animated Shot-for-Shot Remake of the 1971 film adaptation with Tom and Jerry thrown in as an afterthought, sparking outrage and ridicule across the internet, mostly from people who didn't know that the movie series had been doing these kinds of crossover plots for around a decade.
  • Heartwarming Moment: The duet between Robin Hood and Maid Marian in Robin Hood and His Merry Mouse.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Most of the series gets this: they usually aren't anything special, but aside from some of the more infamous ones they're generally considered inoffensive overall and somewhat entertaining.
