YMMV / These Final Hours

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: It was bad enough seeing Australia descend into chaos only to finally be incinerated alongside the rest of the world in the movie, but it just becomes that much more difficult to watch with the wildfires years later.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Much of the human population decided that with the news that the world was coming to an end, any moral boundaries they might have once had should be thrown out with it.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Angourie Rice would become a lot better known in the years after this film due to her roles in The Nice Guys, the MCU Spider-Man films and Mare of Easttown. Sarah Snook, who plays the woman who thinks Rose is her daughter, would similarly get a big career boost due to Succession.
  • Spiritual Successor: To On the Beach in general and its 2000 adaptation in particular. As the story opens, the entire northern hemisphere is already wiped out, and an unstoppable wave of destruction is continuously heading south, until it will reach Australia. The characters try to spend their very final moments as best they can, displaying a wide range of behaviours, from Humans Are Bastards to The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People, but in the end, everyone dies, and all they can choose is how to brace for that.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Considering the very premise of the movie, which involves the unstoppable, unavoidable death of all life on Earth, this can be just as unavoidable reaction for many.
