YMMV / The Undisputed Era

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Their aptly titled "Undisputed" evokes an NWO-like vibe with its guitar, fitting for a group billed as a kind of invading force in NXT. Then rapper Josiah Williams takes it up to eleven with a rap line that lives up to the awesomeness, as the first of his Wrestle & Flow video series. He even got to perform his version while accompanying Cole during TakeOver XXV.
  • Draco in Leather Pants/Evil Is Cool: Four ruthless opportunists who take what they want, but they still get some of the loudest cheers on the roster, in no small part due to Adam Cole's popularity (though Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong soon won the crowds over as well as heels).
    • Before the start of their match against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, fans were unanimously cheering Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly, flanked by Adam Cole, despite being the heels.
    • Strong's Face–Heel Turn to join the group at Takeover New Orleans was met by a massive fan cheer including a "YES" chant.
  • Growing the Beard: While the Undisputed ERA already had a great reception and big fan following with the original trio (Adam, Bobby, and Kyle), the group really became a formidable force when Roderick Strong turned heel and joined them. Adam Cole himself said in a Notsam Wrestling interview (at 25:40) that Roderick was the "perfect fit" for the ERA and that was when the group "really took off". Furthermore, Strong himself literally grew a beard during his time with the ERA.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Made Cathy Kelley their honorary 5th member after Takeover Portland, which was her final contracted night with WWE.
  • Ho Yay: The bromance is off the charts with these four, but in particular:
    • Adam called himself, Kyle, and Bobby "the OT3" during a Zoom promo.
    • Pre-match hugs seem to be mandatory for the Era. Also post-match hugs. They hug during promos too. Seriously, the quantity of hugs is intense.
    • On more than one occasion, Bobby Fish has yelled at opponents who have kicked Kyle O'Reilly in the face, asking how they could "hurt such a cute face".
    • The Up, Up, Down, Down face-touching.
    • After Adam turned on the group, Breaking the Fellowship, Roddy tried to reason with him. This involved telling Adam he loved him and that they'd "fix everything", that he wasn't mad at Adam. While on their knees, hugging and crying. This looked to be a very heartwarming reunion... up until Adam low-blowed Roddy and made it clear they were never, ever getting back together.
  • Signature Scene: The WarGames match. They have participated in the titular match for the men every year since the gimmick was brought back to NXT. Time will tell if they continue to participate in any potential future AEW Blood & Guts matches.
  • Tough Act to Follow: Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne are primed to win the tag titles in a three-way battle… until Strong pulls off a massive Face–Heel Turn and joins the Undisputed Era. Even Cole and O'Reilly were shocked but delighted by Strong's turn. The problem is that the match, in any other night a show-stealer, took place in what was defined as THE best of the TakeOvers, NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, and they had the bad luck to be the follow-up to the five-star rated seven-man ladder match for the North American title. For bonus points, one of the participants — no, not just that, the winner — of that ladder match was… Adam Cole. Meaning this was a Tough Act to Follow not only in terms of the show's quality, but for Cole and the stable, in-universe as well.
