YMMV / The Sceptre and the Kingdom

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The Mysterious Creature is defated by... Wart dropping a bucket of water on his feet to make him slip and lose the Sceptre. Aside from blasting Sora and Riku once, they never really fight nor does Sora ever swing the Keyblade at him.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Both Sora and Riku visiting a world based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney) a full decade before they did exactly that in Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance].
    • Frollo remarks about Sora’s outfit, much like how he did the same in Dream Drop Distance, although he’s more intrigued in the comic as opposed to being downright disgusted by it in the game.
    • The Mysterious Creature bears a passing resemblance to the Nobodies.
    • Goofy looking for ingredients for Donald’s soup (actually a magic spell) might solicit a few chuckles from fans.
    • Sora reacts with surprise at seeing Laverne, a talking gargoyle, much like how he did when meeting her, Victor and Hugo in Dream Drop Distance.
  • Narm: While Fabio Celoni does an admirable job trying to stay faithful to Tetsuya Nomura’s designs for Sora and Riku, there are times where they look rather off because of their more “anime” designs which Celoni is clearly not used to.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Poor Quasi doesn't get to do anything beyond telling Sora and Riku they'll be safe in the bell tower.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: An official Kingdom Hearts comicbook made by Fabio Celoni, a fan-favorite Disney comicbook artist and written by one of the writers behind Paperinik about Sora and Riku visiting various Disney worlds that aren’t featured in the games? Sounds like a really cool idea... too bad this was the first and so far ONLY attempt at an official Kingdom Hearts comicbook.
