YMMV / The Presidents

Go To

Everything before The Movie is unmarked.

  • Arc Fatigue: There are only so many times you can watch Ben continue to bully the boys, go on a rant about how awesome he is and how much they suck, get told off by Donald, backed up by the Principal, challenge them to some sort of match, have a conversation with Ping about how crucial keeping the school in line is, and get punched out by Joe in a Heroic Second Wind before the joke wears thin. The Will They or Won't They? plot between Joe and Hillary is also played out, though that may be an intentional parody of teen dramas. Thankfully, the most recent episodes have shaken up the formula, with the Principal fired and his clawing schemer plot proving interesting; and The movie crowning Ben King of the High School and implying he's undergone a Hazy-Feel Turn, setting the stage for new developments in season 3.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Due to most of the characters being AI renderings of real-life public figures, everyone's gonna have a different opinion of who this applies to. Andrew Tate particularly stands out, though; the real Tate is known for his misogynistic philosophy and oftentimes cruel comments. Andrew in this show is one of the boys' friends, and a likable (if loud) guy.
  • Author Tract: The creator dives in deep to how teachers and faculty will give unfair preferential treatment to certain students over others, even ignoring the truth if it makes their favorite students look bad.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • The Principal finally getting fired for his cruelty and incompetence.
    • After the first few episodes where Ben always came out on top, he finally gets his when the boys beat him at tug-o-war, and later when Biden punches him in the face.
    • Unwitting Pawn he may be, seeing Principal Bernie be a good authority figure for once was a breath of fresh air.
    • Obamna interrupting yet another cool kid superiority speech, telling them that they're all talk but no action.
  • Five-Man Band:
    • "The loser clique:
      • The Leader: Donald, being The Face and the ringleader in most of the boys' schemes
      • The Lancer: Obamna, the cool head to balance out the rest of the group's brashness
      • The Smart Guy: Kim, a Mad Scientist with an eye for strategy
      • The Big Guy: Andrew, the Brawn to Kim's Brains.
      • The Heart / The Hero: Joe; while Donald takes on more of a leadership role, Joe plays the part of a Shonen protagonist in his personal battle against Ben and overcoming his challenges. He's The Heart because his innocence and pure intentions hold the group together.
      • Sixth Ranger: George, the new kid who's still learning the ropes of the town; and sometimes, Jerry (who's not necessarily their close friend, but is lumped in with the losers and the others are at least friendly with him)
    • The villainous cool kids and faculty:
      • Big Bad: Ping, the "King" of the High School
      • The Dragon: Ben, an underclassman and Ping's direct pupil until the movie
      • The Brute: Vlad, the coolest kid at the Middle School, who participates in more physical forms of bullying than the others.
      • Evil Genius / Wicked Cultured: Simon, the knowledgeable British exchange student.
      • Puppet King: The Principal and Mrs. Smith may seem like authority over the school, but they're just as under Ping's thumb as the teenagers.
      • Token Good Teammate: Hillary, given her reluctance to continue in her bullying.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Ben, given his backstory as a nerd and fear of being bullied again.
  • Love to Hate: The Principal is a jackass who yells at the students and shows favoritism to the cool kids, but he's one of the most popular parts of the show for his baffling design [note] Dr. Robotnik's head on the stock-photo of a woman [/note] and his Large Ham delivery. He's proven popular enough that Saint Splooge has announced a prequel series about him.

  • Questionable Casting: Parodied. Following the 2023 trend of using AI to make the Presidents either play video games or end up in comical situations, Saint Splooge took it to a new extreme by making them little kids having a sleepover, but still looking and sounding like old men. A big part of the humor is hearing these world leaders say things like, "I'm a cool big kid" and "Oh pizza pizza, yummy yummy!"
  • The Scrappy; Donald's kidnapper, for being an implied pedophile and more disturbing than funny.
  • Squick: Ben, a teenager, dating Joe's mom and disciplining him like a stepdad in addition to bullying him at school.
