YMMV / The Other History of the DC Universe

  • Broken Base:
    • Issue #3 has thus far proven to be the most divisive entry, albeit not by much.
      • Katana's insinuation that Batman has actually killed people, either by accident or on purpose, has rubbed some people the wrong way. Others argue that this does make sense given Batman's often brutal methods and the fact that even his "non-lethal" weapons can be fatal in a realistic context. A third group argues that this claim should be taken with a grain of salt as Katana may be an Unreliable Narrator.
      • Deathstroke being declared a rapist and sexual predator has also been divisive. While many praise DC for finally acknowledging this, others feel that the issue morally whitewashes Terra by making her a perfect victim with no agency.
    • While it's admitted there's some personal bias in the narration for each issue, some readers have felt the dismissive comments about Roy Harper (such as Bumblebee snidely referring to Roy as a drug addict in regards to his criticisms of Aqualad, and Thunder stating Roy was in a dick measuring contest with Nightwing when he formed the Outsiders) just seem nasty for the sake of being nasty.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Issue #4 caused a fair number of negative reactions due to how much of Renee Montoya's story was changed to varying degrees. The most disliked alterations seem to be ones that change Renee's character for the worse. The two most major of these are making Renee dislike Batman from the outset (originally, she was at least partially inspired by him), and relegating her relationship with Kate Kane to a mere fling alongside her relationship with Daria Hernandez, which effectively makes Renee a cheater in addition to mashing up the timelines of those relationships.
