Trivia / The Other History of the DC Universe

  • Development Gag: Played for Drama in #2. Between the Titan's first break up and their first reformation, while Mal is looking after Titans Lair, he comes across a file called the "Battle of Jericho," where the Titans meet "Jericho," a pacifist trying to stop mob-incited race riots in Metropolis. He is revealed to be a Black man, and is later killed under mysterious circumstances. Mal concludes that he was killed by the powers-that-be because he would have been an agent of real change. This is an extended reference to the development of Teen Titans #20, which would have had a similar version of Jericho and thus would mark the debut of the first Black superhero in the main DC universe, but the editors got cold feet at the last minute and heavily re-wrote the story to remove Jericho and the social commentary.
  • Reality Subtext: Issue #3 takes time to explore the anti-Asian racism at the then-present 1980s. At the time of publishing, political movements to stop anti-Asian racism have been rising after a mass shooter murdered several Asian women in Atlanta, Georgia.
