YMMV / The Mortuary Assistant

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Reymond a Constantine-style Knight in Sour Armor who is doing everything to keep the legions of darkness at bay, or is one man letting everyone around him suffer and die in order to save his own hide, continuing to hire more assistants to be his sacrificial pawns despite losing nearly a dozen already?
  • Breather Level: Especially for newer players, getting the Delusion where the cellar appears in cold storage. Rebecca will be treated to a large, blood-red sigil of the house the Demon belongs to. Narrowing the house down really helps if the player has difficulty finding sigils of the demon's name.
  • Narm:
    • As awful as it is to imagine, the Possessed ending has Raymond painfully constricted by a telepathic demon... the shape is so ridiculous that it comes off almost cartoony.
    • Some of the demon's threats are so over the top and filled with so much cussing that they become a bit hard to take seriously.
    • The scare where the Mimic/Shadowman/Woman in White appear to look at you while browsing the computer can be considered as this, as they slowly come into view in the corner of the screen, almost as if they're not actually trying to scare you, but just trying to say "Hi! :D" instead.
    • The hallucination showing how Rebecca's father died revealed that he suffered a literal Death by Falling Over, and it's shot from Rebecca's POV in a way that feels like a Jump Scare. It's so mundane and the suddenness of it makes it feel really underwhelming.
  • Narm Charm:
    • For Halloween, the mortuary is decorated with Halloween streamers; stickers of ghosts with witch hats, cauldrons, bags of candy; and big skeleton posters. It's so ridiculous that it completely lightens the mood.
    • For Christmas, the mortuary adds the corpse of Santa Claus as one of the bodies to embalm.
  • That One Attack: Most of the Woman in White's scares and delusions tend to be the ones that waste the most of your time and displace you from your current location, especially the bathtub scare when she catches you and straight up boots you outside the mortuary.
