YMMV / The King of Fighters '94

Go To

  • Gameplay Derailment:
    • KOF '94 suffers from the same issue with Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, where Normal Attack's pushback is small and a simple succession of Normals can stun an opponent. This stun combo is a major factor in the metagame, and character/team tiers are mostly decided by if they can perform a stun combo, or how easy their stun combo is.
    • Inputting one version of a special move with two distinct versions, then immediately inputting either the other version or quarter-circle forward + the punch button corresponding to the other version, will "morph" the special move. The viability of this varies depending on the character and what special moves they have, but for quite a few moves, there's no reason not to, since at least one morphed version of the move is much better than either version on their own.
  • Polished Port: Re-Bout features the same gameplay but allows players to mix and match characters to make their teams like the rest of the series. It even features Saisyu Kusanagi as an extra playable character.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: There is no Team Edit in the original game, with only eight preset teams.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: One of the most blatant examples in all of gaming, "Jungle Bouncer" is the theme for the Brazil team, and is almost note for note an instrumental version of Faith No More's "Surprise! You're Dead!"
