- Values Dissonance: The legal marriageable ages in Ancient Ireland up until the English conquest in 1607 were 15 years for women and 18 years for men; Deirdre, whom Conchobar meant to marry as soon as she was "old enough", would only just be of marriageable age (15 years) when she meets Naoise, who is about 20, although Deirdre is the one who initiated the romance to escape Conchobar, who is at least 35 when she is aged 15 years and Conchobhar seems to be closer to 40 when Deirdre is 15.
- Subverted through Deirdre's Mama Bear nurse, who GREATLY dislikes Conchobar's intentions. In some versions, she lets Deirdre run off with Naoise, and also tries to put Conchobar off several years later by claiming a life on the run has turned Deirdre ugly.
