Special Effect Failure: A character empties a revolver into the mummy's chest at point-blank range. The slugs appear to evaporate at some point between the end of the barrel and the mummy, because the filmmakers declined to include any impact effects... including sound effects.
Complete Monster: Ahmed, ostensibly an unassuming subordinate of archaeologist Ben Hassad, is actually a religious fanatic who kills anyone who disturbs the tomb of Priestess Khala. Initially trying to convince Ben and his crew to abandon their archaeological dig, when Ben continues his work, Ahmed attempts to abduct Ben's daughter Sari and her cousin, Gabe Sabry, from a museum. During his next encounter with Gabe, Sari, and Ben—Gabe having discovered the mummified corpses of Ahmed's previous victims—Ahmed captures the trio in sarcophagi, intending to repeat the mummification process which involves disembowelment, brain extraction, and boiling tar. Frustrated by their attempted escape, Ahmed makes a final attempt to boil the trio in tar before being thwarted by a supernatural occurrence.
Realism-Induced Horror: The danger is not actually a mummy or curse but Ahmed, who is basically a religious fanaticSerial Killer who's part of a long line of people who kill and mummify anyone who "desecrates" the tomb in the pyramid. At one point he tries to kidnap the protagonist and his cousin (likely planning to either kill them or take them hostage.) After they escape they tell Uncle Ben about Ahmed and the three of them go to the tomb to investigate, only to get ambushed by Ahmed who plans to kill and mummify all three of them. The only actual supernatural stuff happens in two pages near the end where some mummies come to life in order to save the heroes and scare off Ahmed. As The Pop Arena puts it in his review "The threat just seems too human and real for this kind of series."
Rooting for the Empire: Gabe is so unlikable that readers want Ahmed or the mummy to do him in.
