YMMV / The Crow: The Lazarus Heart

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: As noted on the main page under Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane, the narrative sometimes gives the impression that Jordan is not just insane, but the victim of some kind of Demonic Possession.
  • Anvilicious: Only three police officers, two of whom are homosexuals themselves, are not gay-bashing bigots, but to really drive home how unfairly the law can treat LGBT people, the book has the District Attorney be a glorified Neo-Nazi and open supporter of David Duke. The later reveal that this character regularly cheats on his wife (despite his professed Christian values) with non-White hookers potentially pushes things into Narm.
  • Common Knowledge: Anyone who has actually read the book will quickly realize that it has nothing in common with its alleged film adaptation, The Crow: Salvation, which does not even list the book's author anywhere in its credits, unlike the film adaptation of The Crow: Wicked Prayer.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • New Orleans being devastated by Hurricane Michael, which floods everything and leaves bodies floating everywhere, uncomfortably prefigures the real-life New Orleans being devastated just a few years later by Hurricane Katrina.
    • In-universe, it was established by a Fallen Angel that there is no such thing as aliens, making Jordan's actions even more pointless than they already were, in the later Crow novel Hellbound.
  • Narm Charm: A man killing trans people because he thinks that they are aliens due to his brain being fried by lightning when he was boy sounds kind of... stupid, but Billy Martin manages to pull it off and create an incredibly unsettling character in the form of The Bourbon Street Ripper.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: Detective Gray's subplot has absolutely no bearing on the main one up until the very end, when Jordan just up and decides to target Gray, who Jared starts following in order to find Jordan, which ends up not even being necessary due the psychic distress signal that Lucrece was able to send to Jared.
