* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Some feels this in regards to the altered events in ''R''. It's either for Gall's awkward inclusion, removal of fan-favorite dialogues and cameo Link Attacks, or the {{Flanderization}} of some characters (mainly Kohaku's)[[note]]though the latter is more related to the English localization[[/note]].

* TierInducedScrappy: Subverted. One may see [[LightningBruiser Kunzite]] rarely getting any use in the late-game because of a majority of villains' and mooks' resistance to darkness-elemental attacks, but Kunzite's extensive combo skills make for great stunlocking in boss battles. Played straight with [[MightyGlacier Ines]], who only specializes in water-elemental attacks, and eats through her minuscule TP pool unless properly set up.

* ScrappyMechanic: While [[AuthorsSavingThrow the Vita fixes a lot of this]], the DS version can get ''quite'' chuggy at times depending on how many enemies are on the screen. This can get even ''worse'' for people who are emulating it.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The DS version is considered to be quite fun, unfortunately it can be ''quite'' chuggy when you have too many characters onscreen at once. (Even ''worse'' if you are emulating it.) The Vita version runs smooth as butter.

* BestBossEver: The fight against the Chalcedony squad, even in the DS version. Instead of the normal battle against a rival, you end up facing the entire QuirkyMinibossSquad at ''once'', causing it to devolve into a mass of chaos.

* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: Pretty much ''everyone'' who plays ''R'' uses Chalcedony as their player character.

* MostAnnoyingSound: Much like in ''VideoGame/TalesOfInnocence'', the DS version's voice acting had to undergo a bit of compression to make it fit - and is aggravated by emulator sound glitches. Beryl and the Mechanoid Conundrum are ''very'' annoying. Fortunately the Vita version uses ''much'' higher sound quality so even Beryl is way ''way'' less annoying.

* CompleteMonster: [[ItsAllAboutMe Geocron Striegov]] is first introduced as just a typical Special Ops general under Silver. Shortly into his first appearance, however, he [[{{Sadist}} shows glee at torturing people]], especially at [[WhipItGood whipping Kohaku Hearts]]. Then, when [[WellIntentionedExtremist Creed Graphite]] resurfaced, he suddenly goes turncoat and then join forces with Creed, not caring about the latter's destructive ambition. During the next encounter, Geocron reveals that he is obsessed with collecting the Spiria Cores of living beings, taking great pleasure in seeing the suffering of those who lost their cores, one of them being Silver's daughter Lapis, and the reason why he became an AntiVillain in the first place. In the end, he willfully Xerom-ized for nothing but power, caring about nothing but his own collection and desires.

* CounterpartComparison: ''Tales of Hearts'' is often compared to ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'' by fans because of its similar premise of the hero traveling to lands unknown to gather fragments of the heroine's soul. In this case, it's Shing gathering fragments of Kohaku's Spiria containing her emotions, which is reminiscent to Syaoran gathering Sakura's feathers containing her memories.
