YMMV / Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: S07 E04 "Take Me Out to the Holosuite"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Solok as a Bunny-Ears Lawyer. Bravery sufficient to earn the Christopher Pike Medal twice aside, someone so flagrantly racist would hopefully never have made captain in peacetime, let alone be indulged to the point of getting an all-Vulcan crew. And it wouldn't even be the first time in this series that Starfleet's been that desperate.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In this case, that is up for debate. The Vulcans, being logical and efficient, only field a team of nine players against Sisko's team of eleven. When Solok is thrown out of the game, his team would be unable to qualify to continue the game, and therefore should have had to forfeit.
  • Franchise Original Sin: One might point to this episode as a root to the extreme Jerkassery of Vulcans on Star Trek: Enterprise, which was among that show's biggest criticisms — although some might note that a lot of Vulcans from Star Trek: The Original Series were jerks too. This is just one of the few times that the jerkass behavior was a plot point rather than a side note.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: During Sisko's motivational speech, he tells his crew "It's about courage, and it's also about faith, and it is also about heart.", or "faith of the heart", as it were.
  • Special Effects Failure: The unconvincing wigs and makeup on all Vulcans who are not Solok.
