Harsher in Hindsight: Sandy urgently wants to find SpongeBob out of concern for his safety. It turns out that SpongeBob going missing is more serious, as a later episode and twomovies have shown. Without SpongeBob to make Krabby Patties, things go downhill fast. That said, when Sandy bursts in to the Krusty Krab and reports that the yellow sponge is missing, the customers are eating Krabby Patties.
Sandy tells SpongeBob that sea creatures don't hibernate: only mammals. After a huge Retcon, because squirrels don't hibernate either, Sandy stops hibernating after the second season.
